Turnagain Arm is quite interesting, due to the tide's being so high. That ice moves like a river in the middle of a ice lake. But it is not a lake, and not a river, its a inlet. And quite beautiful, I might add.
Girdwood is part of Anchorage, but separated by several miles.
Now Doug that looks cold.

Wasn't too bad that particular day, but still cold. The funny thing was, while in Girdwood, we saw a young kid taking out the trash, in shorts!

Nice, but too cold!
That day the temps were something like low of 32 to high 38F. Quite tolerable.
The temps in Girdwood in January this year ranged from 40 F, to -12.
Being near the ocean, temps are usually not too extreme at this location.
Very good shots, (brrrrrrrrrr!) Doug! I, too, think your last shot looks like a Christmas scene!
The last one is my favorite. Wow!
Your first shot - I took that same pic from what seems to be the same place, but in June. Not quite as nice, the water is almost grey during the summer.
Trivia - 2nd highest tide change in the world on Turnagin.

Love the turnouts along that stretch. I too have taken photos in June at the same location. On that day, the tide was out, and it was MUD flats and gully's. On this winter day, on the way to Girdwood, the tide was still coming in. There was a channel out there in the ice, not far from shore, that was moving fairly fast. When we returned, everything was still. I wondered if most/all of the ice moved out with the tide. Wasn't there to see.
Well done! Saw the Arm in September 2007. No snow yet.

I think it snowed about a foot the January night of 2017, after we arrived. Curious to me, the snow was mostly not deep! Around 1 ft. most of the places we visited that winter, except one place on the Dalton Hwy, it was over 3 ft (I stepped into it), lol.
I like the leading lines in the first two photos. Great landscape shots in difficult lighting conditions.

Glad you liked them. Yep, can't always choose lighting conditions! I liked the lines, also.
