I don't know which is the best for me someday when I can buy a D850 refurbished and my d800 is starting to get near the max shutter count I will hopefully get one and keep the D800 for backup. There are so many good cameras nowadays that it is hard to come up with the best one they all fit the bill for certain uses, the smaller lighter cameras ie; mirrorless I am sure fit the bill for street photography ( I know and much more), Nikon Canon,
Pentax fit the bill for landscape sports, great. Medium format and large format fit for landscape, portraits.
It is a false thing I believe to state one camera is so much better than the other, I think that I agree the best camera is the one that we have and use the most.

The reviews are starting to come in for the Nikon D850. To quote from Photographyblog: "Offering a compelling balance of size and speed, the Nikon D850 is the best all-round DSLR camera that we've ever had the pleasure of reviewing. This is really the one camera that can do it all, from landscapes to action, reportage to weddings, the D850 handles it all with aplomb." I anticipate the three usual responses: 1)we don't have enough information, 2)there's no such thing as the world's best camera, 3)mirrorless cameras rock. What other bodies would you nominate for world's best?

Yeah, but checking exif is in the same ballpark as cheating on this test.

Not ballpark, it would be exactly cheating. I was thinking more along the wager angle, not the test angle. With money on the table ... you know there's bad people out there.

you my friend are no doubt a troll!! I think you need to go ahead and spend some money (nikon will thank you). The who's best camera thing will go on forever! My old canon xsi will still get the job done! Just saying

Agreed!!
1 for the sandwich!!
As far as this camera goes, it is most likely the best at everything to date. As categorized, Until tomorrow, when canon or Sony tops it.
Some get so wrapped up on semantics, the fact is, is it is difficult to truly express oneself and to be understood when conversating face to face let alone the internet!
I did not need this camera, but I wanted it and I know i will benefit from it, but one of my favorites was the d300 maybe because it was built in Japan, and I had traveled with it.
I imagine I have a bit of gas syndrome also, even though I really utilize my equipment and push it to it's limits which in turn pushes me to mine and in turn I actually get better.
I know the age old saying a camera will not make you a better photographer, but I would rephrase that to say. A camera can help you to become a better photographer, just as a better car can help one become a better driver. Sorry for the ramble, it all started with the sandwich guess I am hungry lol
I would add best foods and avocado.
I hope you have a great day
Cheers

I am very happy with my IDx MkII for a DSLR but I don't know that there is one best DSLR. Most things are compromise in one way or another.

Best,

Agreed and well said, love the d800!!
I believe the idea is this is the best camera for doing everything that there is in one body not that it does everything the best.
Happy photo taking cheers

Best camera in the world is the one I currently own. Why? Its mine, does what I need and know how to use it.

I have to agree with this. For some, having all the whiz bang gizmos do not make a worlds best camera. But having one they are comfortable with, understand, and know how to use. makes a camera the worlds best to them.

It probably is the best all around digital camera now. It has the newly designed sensor and the same incredible autofocus system as the D5 and D500. I'm interested in going to full frame (I currently have a D500) but will wait to see the D760. Rumors have it that it will have a 36 megapixel sensor. It should be considerably less money than the D850.

I just went full frame last year and am really enjoying my D750 (except when I think about all that money that could have been spent on motorcycles, fortunately those thoughts fade over time). I was starting to have silly thoughts about a D850 so thanks very much for reminding me about the D760. I suppose the other way to control spending would be to run out of money.

They say a new D750 will be introduced. Maybe called D760. Interesting times.

Even though photography in itself is of a very subjective nature the tools used can be evaluated objectively as cameras . Having said that if the Nikon is not the very best of the lot it is surely making a name of itself upon the experts who are reviewing it not only in specs but in actual use and performance . In video it could be argued that it could be better comparing it with the competition but in the art of photography at this present time in technological achievements it is at the very top among it's peers . The best ? I don't know but surely at the very top . Equaled , maybe , surpassed , i doubt it .

Really?

Why d you not do what every one who has two bit of sense do: WAIT AND SEE.

Remember the DF flap? It was soooo good.... To be seen with.

Reality it was just another yet satisfying camera but really nothing to brag at home.

I am interested in this as a 'real upgrade; to my D800e. I blasted the D810 for being incremental. This one, appears to be an upgrade that will be proven only a few months, when the camera has been put through it public beta testing.

If you look at DPReview (owned by amazon.com) you will notice that folks are claiming to own it already. THAT should tell you something about the hype. Folks are taking their dream for reality.
