Tamron has decided to take on Canon and Sigma head to head in the 100-400mm range full frame lens. Its slightly smaller and lighter than the Canon, slightly larger and heavier than the Sigma, but it DOES come with a tripod collar which the Sigma lacks. And the tripod collars foot is 100% Arca compatible. Will be a good option for those not wanting to go all the way to the 150-600mm range. Current pre-release pricing is said to be $799, actual release pricing may vary slightly.

100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A035)
September 15, 2017, Commack, New York-
Tamron USA, Inc. announces the development of a new ultra-telephoto 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD zoom lens (Model A035) for full-frame DSLR cameras. The advanced optical design of Model A035 includes 3 LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements for greater aberration reduction and Tamron's original eBAND Coating for superior anti-reflection performance. At 39.3 oz., the new lens is the lightest weight in its class[1] and features magnesium material in key areas of the lens barrel to improve weight reduction, strength and portability.
The Model A035 delivers fast and precise autofocus performance and consistently powerful VC (Vibration Compensation) benefits thanks to the high-speed Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) control system that is found in the latest Tamron lens models. Model A035 is fully compatible with Tamron's 1.4X teleconverter and the Tamron TAP-in ConsoleTM that enables lens customizations for focus adjustments, VC mechanism adjustments and more. Additionally, an Arca Swiss compatible tripod mount is available as an optional accessory. This combination of features and optional accessories join to create a lens that photographers everywhere will enjoy using in various shooting situations, including low-light conditions that require handheld operation as well as those where convenient attachment to a tripod is preferred.
Now this looks pretty good but it took them a little bit to long as I already bought the Sigma 100-400. The Sigma works very well on both my Nikon bodies D500,D750. Out of the box it is sharp threw out the range. Mine came with the Tap in console but have not used it. My only complaint is on the Black Rapid strap it hangs down. I also have the Tamron 70-200 G2 and it on the Black Rapids hangs perfectly on the tripod collar. The price I got on the Sigma 100-400 with console was $749. Thought it was very good on price point.
Will it be as good as the much more expensive Canon EF 100-400L II?

Not according to the Canon fanboys it won't be!
But seriously, at about 1/3 the price and 1/3 stop slower across the range, I personally doubt it will match the Canon 100%, but with Tamrons recent releases being as amazingly good as they have been, I feel it will give the Canon a very good run for the money, plus at that much lower cost it gets Tamrons industry leading 6 year lens warranty over Canons industry worst one year lens warranty. All points to be considered.

Although I wouldn't consider buying one in Canon mount as I already have the 100-400L II, I would consider it for my Nikon bodies.
I like Tamrons warranty, it tells me they believe in their engineering and they stand behind it.
As far as Canon only supplying a 1 year warranty, I own several L series and a few gold and silver band Canon lenses and I've only had to send one back to Canon for service and that was after the lens was over 10 years old. Sure I've had lenses professionally cleaned but that's not covered by anyone's warranty. The L series lenses are extremely well designed and built and sell based on quality and reputation, they don't need an extended warranty to increase sales.

I know you were teasing a bit (maybe) but many, if not most, Canon shooters I know have one or more non-Canon branded lenses. But a fan boy is a fan boy and some Canon users will not mount anything but Canon to their bodies in the same way that some Nikon users will only purchase Nikkor lenses.

Do you know if the Nikon mount will have an aperture ring?

I personally have only one EF mount Tamron lens, the A1009 I think, SP 70-200 f/2.8 I bought when Tamron first introduced the lens. I was originally going to get the Canon 70-200 f/4 but the camera store was out of them. I've never had a problem with that lens. If the Canon equivalent rates a 10 the Tamron is at least a 9.5 to the Canons 10. The Canon may be marginally sharper and the AF is a bit faster but the Tamron is an excellent lens. I guess that will exclude me from the Canon fanboy club.

Sounds good. Let's see what the reviews say. I'm limited to 300mm now, but I don't feel a need to go much farther.
now I'm going to have to sell my canon 100-400 II LOL

I am really glad SOMEONE uses this site to sell their stuff. But I thought there was a separate place for it and NOT on the general photography site. OH, SORRY ABOUT THAT, WAS I NOT TO POINT THAT OUT.
This looks good. Really thought about the Tamron 18-400...but this sounds like it will fit my needs better.
And the price is right. And the tripod collar is a big plus for me.
