What causes strike-through text

I periodically see posts where everything on the page is lined through (strike-through text). I sent a PM today and the text looked fine when I sent it. But when I later went back to my Sent folder, that message showed with all strike-through text. Why does that text type happen here on the Hog?

Usually you need to use the tags offered by UHH... Like this text (hit reply to see how).

As to why this happens when you send a PM, I have no idea and I do not think anyone will either.

I'm guessing that you wanted to accent something and used brackets, and the first letter after the left bracket was an "s", which turned on strike through. Since you didn't use a "/s" in brackets later in the text, it did not get turned off. This made everything strike through. I got bit by that once. Now I only use parenthesis or braces, as brackets are reserved for HTML tags.
You can see what HTML tags are usable here by clicking "Show Tags" in replies or private messages.

Okay, now that makes me want to test [blink]blinking text[/blink].
Well, not all tags are supported, even though blink was depreciated.
It's just best not to use brackets in typing normal text...

That is hit "quote reply" to see how. Just reply shows nothing except a blank text window.

Look at the text that was copied of what you are replying to (quoted) and look at that text. If you just hit reply, you won't get the text that you are replying to.

Sorry robert, I re-read and got what you were saying...

PMs sent through the UHH system use exactly the same rules used by text

Put "[" "s" "]" without quote marks before text to receive strikeout treatment

Put "[" "/" "s" "]" without quote marks at the end of that text

I use curly braces - {} - and never square braces - [] - as my way to avoid these problems

this is only way to strike out text

You should see what happens when I am tired and try to speed type like I was able to do long long ago. I think faster than I type and one hand has faster reflexes than the other. I have been known to type a word backwards, put one syllable in front of the one it should be behind and even order words in a sentence backwards. I couldn't do it when wide awake and thinking if you paid me to do it.

I don't know, but certainly someone's gonna blame it on Comic Sans.
