DAVEO - that comment I made - there, you see - was more directed to the forum in general ... you mentioned you have two 35 Primes, but have no use for either. Actually, I have a 35 Prime - which is also a macro. I don't use it much, as I don't have occasion to - as, apparently, you don't either. Now, then - the object of this post - is to get some feedback about the AP-Z lenses available for Nikon-mount DX cameras. I know about the 18-105, and the current replacement - the 18-140 - neither of which have gotten particularly good reviews. So, I was wondering if others have gone in a different direction, perhaps, to 3rd-party lenses - Sigmas or Tamrons ....

You're preaching to the choir...I already re-iterated your original post, so please understand that I understand. I answered your question regarding my opinion of the 18-140. I have successfully used that lens on my D3100,D7000,D7100 and D500. I do wonder what questionable respected reviews you have been reading. It certainly wasn't DXO Mark or several other popular reviewers. Are there other good choices available? I'm sure there are, but the 18-140 used or refurb is a viable choice for your price point.

DAVEO ... thanks for your valuable contributions to this post ....
APS-Z?
A new sensor size replacing the APS-C?
Goofynewfie,
Is google not your friend?
Try AP-Z.

Did I write APS-Z? .... I'm so sorry ... getting unnerved by insults ... AP-Z - for ALL PURPOSE ZOOMS .....
APS - C - for Alternate Proportion Sensor - Canon (or Compact, depending on your leaning) ....
If I combined the terms ... it was an accident ... my apologies ....

No worries!
It's a new acronym for me.

Insults? There's only a little over a page for this thread. I see a lot of confusion and no insults.

DAVEO ... 35-105? ... I didn't know there was one ... there are both 24-105 and 28-105 AP-Z lenses for full-frame cameras, but most AP-Z lenses for APS-C/DX cameras start at 18 ... and go up from there ... I think AP-Z covers everything on the top end - be it 105, 135, 200, 250, 270, 300, now - 400 .... as long as it does decent WA coverage and a reasonable tele top end

DAVEO ... no insults on this one, that I can see ... but the one about - what is it ... I'm not sure, now ... is pretty full of them

Waking up from a nap myself.
If I were to invest in a DX camera system, for me the spec's on Nikon's new 16-80 look great. 24-120 ff equivalent focal length, f/2.8-4 , (very similar to my most used ff lens) but the reviews say it's over priced. I love my old 17-55.
