My SS# was "possibly compromised" in the Equifax hack. I signed up for something which will begin on 9/11, and I have to go back and continue the signup at that time.
The best way to protect yourself from something like this is to have really bad credit

That's way I see it too. Need go go buy something for $50 an not pay for it I guess .
The problem with the sign up is you have to agree not to be part of a class action suit against Equifax if it comes to that.

That's a start.
I've known people who have done that - never pay their bills - and they just seem to keep rolling along.
I ck'ed and I got told invalid email address.
One thing we did years ago was to put a freeze on all our accounts at all three credit reporting companies. I test it every now and then by trying to get a credit card from Walmart, It's stopped every time.
Update, I read that its probably illegal for Equifax to deny you the right for joining a class action suit over this particular breach, Equifax has come back with "only current users of their Premier Service" I think most of us with good credit may in for a hard time if we don't take a little prevention, I've used life lock for years but when I tried to call their customer service at 8 this morning was told there'd be a 35 minute hold time!! Seems everybody is worried.

I checked mine and they say that I'm ok.

I signed up a couple days ago. Have to go back 9-13. I already have a monitoring courtesy of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM federal government personnel folks) being hacked a couple years ago. I get alerts about once a month regarding sex offenders close by as well as credit report inquiries.

I am also covered by the OEM hack. I've never gotten anything from them after they said that I was covered. I never thought anything about it, but no wonder if I shouldn't be getting an update.

Here's the link to the OPM ID Care website. It can't hurt to sign up.

Now some people are trying to run a scam based on this. There was an e-mail in my spam folder claiming to be from Equifax, telling me my SSN was compromised, and to click on a link. But I've never used Equifax, and the e-mail address it came from was a weird one without Equifax in it at all.
I tried to log into the Equifax website to check if my SS# was possibly compromised but only got a message when using Google Chrome and MS Edge browsers that said the site can't be reached. Tried Firefox also but it was completely useless. Now what do I do?
