If you have to ask everyone what lens to use on a trip, you are not a photographer, but just a picture taker. What lens did you use on your last trip? Look around and you might be able to find a Boston lens.
In Israel, I used the 16-55 lens more than any others. Thanks for the snarky reply though. I figured someone like you would come along eventually.
6 days may seem like a long time, but you will be going all the time seeing the site Lexington to Boston, and maybe south to Plymouth. I like the water fronts to photograph. The Charles River (Memorial Dr) looking over the Boston skyline is great. The Boston water-front is a must. Enjoy
In high school, I wanted to do a term paper on Australia. It turned out lousy because I didn't break it down ahead of time into a manageable package, to focus on a particular piece. I tried to do it all, as they say. Take the same approach on your photography expectations, narrow it down, focus, and you'll be happier. Be sure to consider the output too- just viewing, viewing and printing, selling.
Why did you buy a lens you won't take?
I use the Nikon D5200 with the Tamron 16-300 lens, in the City, it gives me all the functions I need!

In fairness to your good wife, you should allow a couple of hours to hit the Outlet stores In North Conway.
Fairness or not, is there any doubt that the outlet mall will be a #1 stop in N. Conway? The consequences of that not happening are too painful to consider.

I have plenty of lenses I won't take, like my 50-140 and 100-400. I want to just carry a few since we're flying out and back. Plus, with 2 replacement knees, I don't want to tote that much weight around. When I'm in my truck. I take them all.

For our upcoming Christmas trip to Edinburgh I had to decide between my 18-300mm lens and my 17-55mm f2.8 lens which obviously doesn't have the same reach but is much sharper and will be better for low light shots. I checked out the meta-data on all of last year's Edinburgh pics taken w/the telephoto and found that the vast majority of them fall within the parameters of the 17-55 and b/c of its sharpness I can get any extra reach by cropping. So, it's going across the Pond along with a 35mm prime. Your 16-55 should be more than adequate.
I like wide, but I like f/2.8 more.
