I apologize I sometimes get in a bad mood and find the hog to be a bit like Facebook the easiest way to be misunderstood. And can be full of people more interested in their self interest then the interest and or education of others and/or the group at large. And don't realize it is a learning experience for all for both those who ask and even those who do not. And that we all have different learning abilities skill sets wants and desires

dyximan ... there are a number of really arrogant people on here, aren't there, dyxi? ... particularly, some of the Nikon users ... many of whom don't think twice about plonking down five grand for a new body, or lens ... and seem to think you're dirt under their feet, if you use bridge cameras, or even APS-C or DX cameras ... and, yes - I do agree ... continued use of the site is a continual learning experience ... I think it's high time the masses (we who use smaller than FULL FRAME) finally have a chance to get a word in ... which is - kinda ... why - I'm here!!!

Dispensing receiving accepting information and educating others and being educated myself is all I'm really interested in. For myself and others

Doesn't it all amount to the same thing, Dyxi?

There's a thing going on here - perpetrated by those higher up, who have an active interest in seeing all those who are the least bit interested in photography ... get hooked on the FULL FRAME idea - as being the ONLY path to better photographs. And, I'm saying - it just ain't so. The camera doesn't make the photographer. Knowledge and acquired skill, make the photographer. The tools he or she use to attain that skill, are not dictated by the size of their pocketbook. A person with a $300 camera, can shoot every bit as well as a person with a $3000 rig. It just takes patience, a little learning, and a whole bunch of experience ....

I currently use a Nikon D7100 and one of my lenses is a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-300 4.5 G ED where the autofocus motor in the lens has apparently crapped out. Manual focus works OK, but the AF will pick a focal point and then bounce around that spot, rendering the shots slightly out of focus. This does not occur with any of my other lenses, so I think the lens is the culprit. I would appreciate any recommendations for a replacement lens, preferably in the range of $500 or so. I would like to go to a 2.8 and can spend a bit more if that's what it takes. I primarily photograph landscapes, old buildings, and birds, hopefully in flight. I took a bunch of action pictures at a recent rodeo with this lens and NONE of them were in focus! Extremely unhappy about that! I am not a professional but a passionate amateur, and I don't want that to happen again! Thanks for any assistance, mates.

I used the 55-300 on my d7100. It focused fine but took forever. I finally bought the new Nikkor AF-P 70-300 full-frame lens. A very, very sharp lens with lightning fast auto focus. On the d7100 it produces focal lengths of 105-450mm. I simply love it but it is in the $750 range, but we'll worth the extra $$.

Bunkershot ... don't you miss the area between 27mm and 105, though?

See, for me ... All-Purpose Zooms - should cover at least what a kit lens does, on the low end, and then goes out from there ... actually, for me ... an 18-200 is an ideal AP-Z ... adequate on the wide end ... more than enough on the tele end, w/o getting into stability problems ...

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question, Chris. Irma put us out of business for the past week.

Actually, I also have a full frame 24-70 mm that provides a net 36-105mm on my D7100. My 18-55mm kit covers what's left...

Irma needs to learn to behave herself, huh? ... I have the D7100 too. Currently using the 16-85 VR on it. Had a Sigma 18-250 OS HSM Macro on it, but wasn't terribly pleased with the results I was getting, so I switched the two - now the Sigma's on my D5500. Marginally better, but not by much (18-250 on D5500, rather than on D7100.)

Put my 18-55 kit back on my D3200. Seems to work better than the Sigma 18-200 OS HSM I had on it. That one is now on my D5300. Nothing is hard and fast. I may juggle them all again, at some later point. Still trying to figure out why some seem to work better on the D7100, and others work better on the intermediates. Some day, I will.

Irma should have been redirected to North Korea. After playing with the Tamron 18-440 on my D7500, I'm pretty satisfied......
