Hello to All

We will be taking a trip to Colorado Springs & Pueblo Colorado in a couple of weeks.

Looking for suggestions on things or places to photograph. One point of interest is Landscapes especially
with Waterfalls, Sunrises, and Sunsets.

Looking for shots in the towns and hiking opportunities... or road trips. We will be there about a week.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Pueblo will be tough. The Riverwalk is very photogenic but we usually go there to shop so maybe others will have some better ideas.

In "The Springs" don't miss Garden of the Gods and 7 Falls, which now had at least one zipline. Hopefully they had the good sense to put it somewhere that didn't affect the view of the falls. Check Google as well, sometimes when you live near something you tend to ignore its better qualities.

Near Pueblo: Arkansas River and dam, towns west of Pueblo

This is a way to see quite a bit of Pikes Peak, without the white knuckle driving - http://cograilway.com/. Good possibility of the aspen groves changing color as well. And this is about 20 minutes west of Pueblo - http://royalgorgebridge.com/

In Pueblo, visit Mineral Palace Park. And though it is not a landscape, I highly recommend Rosemont Museum.

I agree with all of these. In Pueblo, go to B street and visit the old Train Depot it is photo worthy inside and out. Also, in the evening off of B street and across from the depot is Neon alley. There is a collection of "old" neon signs and they are lit every evening. You will recognize many - good opportunity to try your night photography. On the River Walk, it's not a photo op, but you can visit the Center for American Values - a museum to Medal of Honor recipients. And, yes, visit the USAF Academy chapel - because next year it will be in the early stages of repair. East of Colorado Springs you could visit the Paint Mines - rock formations and hiking trails - good for morning shoot. Enjoy!!!!

I live in Canon City. From the Springs drive West on Highway 24 which goes past the road to the top of Pikes Peak. Visit the top of the mountain or continue on to Woodland Park and then farther on across a high desert area to The road going to Victor and Cripple Creek. They used to be gold mining towns but are now gambling towns. If you continue West in Highway 24 to Highway 9 you can turn South and head for Canon City. When you reach Highway 50 you can turn left and visit the Royal Gorge suspension bridge. It is worth seeing. Continuing on into Canon City, about eight miles, you will pass Colorado's first prison on the left as you enter town. The prison is still in full operation from the 1860's so no tours there. If you take a Left on First Street it will take you to the prison museum which is pretty interesting for a couple of hours. Continuing East in Highway 50 you can take Highway 115 through Penrose right back to Colorado Springs. If you continue East on 50 you will end up in Pueblo.

Getting back to Highway 24, if you do not turn South at Highway 9 you can keep going west on 24 until you reach Hughway 285. Taking a Left takes you through Buena Vista, another prison town, and then to the Salida area and Highway 50. Left on 50 through Salida takes you through a beautiful canyon with the Arkansas River to Canon City and Pueblo.

If you go from the intersection of 285/50 another 7 miles South on 285 you will see signs to O'Haver Lake. It is a beautiful mountain lake at 9200 feet with a view of Mt. Ouray.

This whole trip is going to take most of a day but you will see some breathtaking views. It may sound confusing but it is basically an ever widening circle allowing you to choose a time limit.

Be sure to take at least a jacket if going into the mountains. The weather can change in minutes from a bright sunny day to a snowstorm.

If you would like more information feel free to PM me.

If you like hiking, go to Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah on Hwy 78. You can continue your road trip by taking Hwy 78 west to Hwy 165, where you can see Lake Isabel and Bishop's Castle. You can take Ophir Creek Road up to Greenhorn Road, which takes you close enough to Greenhorn Peak to hike to the top.

Also, take Hwy 96 west of Pueblo through Wetmore and over Hardscrabble Pass. You'll end up in Westcliffe, which has spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. You can hike the Rainbow Trail from there, or even head up to the high mountain lakes. Lakes of the Clouds is our favorite, but we don't hike it -- we ride horses.

Another not-to-be-missed road trip is Hwy 12 which goes through La Veta and Cuchara. At the top of Cucharas Pass, you can drive over Cordova Pass and see the Apishapa Arch. You may be lucky enough to see the golden aspens in all their glory by that time.

Dennis,

We're leaving for Colorado Springs this weekend. A friend was questioning whether the fires in other areas is affecting the air quality and presenting a haze that would interfere with landscape photography. Do you have any input? Because if the area is smoke inundated I may alter my plans.
