Fellow hoggers, allow me to explain. My wife and I travel a lot. I love and am invested in my dslrs. My wife, bless her, is not a technical person, nor is she into photography, hence, when on a trip, I am rarely in any of the pics. I once had a Nikon 1J3 which she used as well as I did, but since it lacked some of the features that I liked or was accustomed to, I sold it. I am now, or in the near future looking to replace that 1j3 with either the Sony A6000 or the Lumix gx85. I have heard and read of good reviews from both cameras. I am not looking to go hog crazy in lenses for the new camera, just the kit and a longer telephoto. I am aware the LUMIX will also take Olympus lenses. By the way, I need a viewfinder-can't see a thing on those screens in sunlight. What sayeth ye?

Get the Lumix.
+1...I've had both and kept the Panasonic GX85, it has a great feature set and a wider array of affordable quality lens, made in Japan.

You seem to be buying a camera for "YOU". If you want her to take pictures so you will be in some get a camera for "HER". A good pocket/purse camera with a decent sensor and fixed lens that has a good Auto/Scene mode should fill the bill. IE: a high end Point and Shoot!
Then you can get what ever light weight travel camera you want for you.

I am buying it for me. I will be using it and handing it off to her and other people to get a quick shot off. If she is comfortable with it, it is hers. But trust me, I know how it will work out!
Also trying to travel a little lighter.
Get what you want and just put it in full Auto or at least Program Mode when you hand it to your wife.

I got the A6000 on sale with the 16-50mm lens. I later bought the Tamron 18-200mm. It's a great camera with an amazing amount of features. Before you spend $500 or more, spend ninety minutes watching this video.

Get either Olympus or Panasonic, the Olympus EM series of cameras have a viewfinder.
I just bought the LUMIX G85 for travel. It is an excellent camera. I will leave my Nikon 7100 at home when I travel to Ireland next week.
I also purchased an Olympus Stylus 1s for a compact camera that I can slide in my purse when I might not want to carry gear. It has a point and shoot look (but every capability of a DSLR), and tilt screen and eye viewfinder. It takes excellent shots, too!
Highly recommend both.

I never owned a Lumix, but I love my A6000. One thing I prefer over a 4/3 system is the Sony has a bigger sensor, the same size as a non full frame DSLR.

I was looking for something more compact for travel, and after owning a Sony A6000 traded it for an Olympus OM-D EM5II. I started with a few primes but then purchased a used 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO M. Zuiko lens which is sharp and definitely first rate. Panasonic LUMIX lenses are usable on Oly micro 4/3 bodies. The viewfinder is excellent on this body, and that was a must have for me. Maybe you should rent some different cameras to see what feels and performs best for you. Let us know what you decide. Good luck in your choice.
