Cameras hurt by the solar eclipse. They told us so.

Did you forget to mention these photos were published in lensrental.com blog on Friday?

I didn't say I took 'em. I was going to give the link but thought this would make it faster to view.

Considered photographing the eclipse, but the expense of filters I will never use again and all the people trying to rent space and rip off the public, I got turned off and passed. I made a better photo in Photoshop👍 Cameras in tip top shape.

I would think that you would want to at least publish where you got them and credit the magazine. Seems a little duplicitous the way you did it.

I wonder if anyone is going to publish a similar article showing people's eye (retina) damage? For every camera that was ruined, I bet double the number of eyes suffered some damage.

Being an amateur astronomer I suffered all that hassle to photograph the recent eclipse. I'm happy to report neither of my Canon cameras (T5i, XS) suffered damage, along with either eye. What boob would: (a) look at the sun without protection long enough to sear the retina? That bright a light hurts! (b) point their camera at the sun without protection and leave it (didn't you ever try to burn an object with a magnifying glass?) Maybe I'm too harsh on human nature. By way of confession as a teenager playing around with my 6" telescope with an inadequate and poorly applied "filter" which cracked from the heat I did slightly sear my left eye retina which has a slightly more orange tint even 60 years later. We all have to mature in our skills and behavior and given the partly cloudy weather I got some good pictures of the eclipse.

Then you need to give attribution in your opening sentence! You are in violation of copyright laws!

Much better images on the web from the scientists.

Obviously there is an opinion among you and the other gentleman that there was a transgression committed here by me passing along an FYI that was posted on the internet without giving ANY attribution. Why don't you start a post and present your issue. I'd like to know how serious this is as seen by others and I'm sure I am not the only one willing to learn something from this missive.

How do you get a bold font? I am unable to find that.

To the two gentlemen. I would really like to see your arguments in more detail. Two issues here. Attribution and copyright. First, attribution. I never implied those were my pictures therefore no attribution or plagarism.

Second, I looked up the copyright laws as regard to images posted on the internet. Found the FAIR USE clause: "the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright." Look it up yourself. This fits my intent as I was just passing on information to inform.

I spend way too much time on this forum trying to help benefit others. I should learn from this.

First, we are not going to get into a contest about "fair use". IMHO any use without attribution is theft. End of comment.

Second. How to get Bold Typeface

Attribution is implied when no credit is given to the original source. You will always lose that case. Ask Ivanka Trump how her speech at the Republican Convention worked out for her. Same principal. Same for copywrite law. When you use the work of someone else and fail to give credit in a public forum, chances are very good that you would lose that case also. Make it easy on yourself and just give the credit due. It is the courteous and right thing to do.
