I am at my wit's end trying to find fair prices for the equipment of my widowed friend. Could someone please tell me where I can get fair prices on:

Leica M4-2
Leitz Summicron-M 1:2/35
Leitz TELE-ELMARIT 1:28/90
Leitz Summicron 1:2/50
Leitz WETZLAR 1:3.4/21

Your help would be appreciated!

Not quite sure what you think a "fair price" is?

I'd say that anything over $900 for the M4 would be a fair price; possibly up to $1,000 if it's in "as new" condition. You should be able to sell the lenses individually (I think it's unlikely anyone would buy camera and all lenses bundled together), at between 1/2 to 2/3rds of the prices offered by the major used equipment dealers would be fair.

I hope this helps?

Have you checked what these items are selling for at Cameta and KEH? Don't care to much for EBay but I am sure I'm in the minority.

You might look for a Leica camera forum where, upon joining, you could ask for advice. They may have a classified section where some items can be sold. Trying to find a fair buyer for all the items at once is certain to be difficult.

Go to ebay and do a search for each item. Go down the left column and check "Sold listings." That will tell you haw much people were willing to pay.

Call KEH. They will need an honest assessment of condition and age.

They will offer you something less than market value (they need to make a profit) but you can sell them all at once with no hassle.

I would sell all of these on eBay in separate auctions starting at $1.00ea. With Leica and Leitz so long as you show good photos of everything and offer money back (14 days) less shipping, you will sell everything and get what it is worth. All things are worth what people will pay for them.
PM me for eBay help.

This advice is a must!! I would never sell or trade in anything (photo equipment) without doing this first.

Isn't there an advantage ($$) to starting it at $0.99?

If the 21mm has a finder, be sure to mention that as it would up the price by about $150. Also the condition of Leica lenses is very important, good pictures are a must and check the optics with strong back light for dust or fungus..

What exactly is a "finder"?

I very much would not put them in at a $1.

I had a go at finding a price and it was very difficult to find your items and a sold price. Anything similar went for between 100's and 1000's If you can get a good valuation from a specialist trader, then if you decide to sell privately you can add 50% to those prices and put them on ebay for a buy it now price or best offer.

You may not get takers at your buy it now price. But the best offer may be reasonably close to what you want, you can choose to decline or counter offer. I personally would rather pay a listing fee and not sell rather than get took by sharks on an auction. Your stuff seems reasonably rare on ebay, dealers will bid at the last second for items without a doubt but they may be going in at the $100 mark or less hoping to resell for at least 4x that. Sometimes a lot more. Buyers always going to say it's worth less than it is. Try the buy it now thing see if you are getting interest and if any interesting offers come up, you are not really looking to sell for the first time round, just seeing if there is interest and where they are pitching at. You're certainly not going to sell for less than a dealer is offering. Hopefully 2 or 3 will be interested in making you an offer.

With listing, packing, and shipping, this is an arduous task. Especially not knowing what the Leica items are worth. What have I gotten myself into. It would not be bad if it were just a couple of items.
