Wasn't there a similar question posed possibly a week or so ago with the similar pages long assortment of answers, each one as good a reason as another for our interest in photography?

I take pictures for my personal enjoyment, for viewing, for memories, and for printing some of the better ones. I recently added a new venue, using Pro Show to develope video slide shows with titles, music, and all kinds of visual effects. It's opened up a whole new dimension of viewing pleasure.

I thnk it was Ansel Adams that once said, "There’s nothing worse than a sharp picture of a fuzzy idea." Without creativity you are just documenting objects. To me, I guess it is the challenge of marrying creativity with technique and occasionally being pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

Time marches on...my cousin just gave me a flash drive with images his dad took of my front yard my 5 brothers and me, my parents, and a woodchuck hunt down on the farm. I never knew these photos existed, but they are precious to me now, as they were taken over 50 years ago. My parents and older brother are gone, as is the farm, the pines we had just planted in the front yard are now over 75 feet tall, my younger brothers are now welcoming grandchildren into the world on a regular basis...My cousin's dad just liked to document his activities, and now, I'm very glad he did; it is almost like time travel to see those photos now.

Funny, I just made a adjustment in my thinking regarding that question. I have taken amature pics all my life, entirely for the memories, then realized what good are those ,sitting in a box in a closet, or on a flash drive?
So i created my happy wall'! I slipped the faves into a cheapy cardboard frame, and tack them up around the hut. THIS is why I took, and continue to take pictures.

It is a wonderful hobby and it records events so that you can go back to them and refresh your memory. It is as good of a hobby as any and it is one you can continue to do as you get older (like me - 74 years old).

Go to a showing (even at the county fair level) of photography, and you won't have to ask why people take photographs. It's an art form. I have trouble drawing a straight line without holding down the shift key, but I can take a reasonably good photo. Maybe some year it'll be some of my photos with that blue ribbon next to them.

I just love it when some grumpface gets riled. Any good pics of pulsing neck veins out there?

I have a photo. It is of my father taken during a cattle roundup in Kremling Colorado in 1916. It is a priceless gift. I'm so glad someone had a camera then.

You might be surprised but Lee's a pro shooter just looking to stimulate interaction. So much for the "beginner theory" based on your own perception leading to inaccurate assumption.

I'm glad to hear your reply Haydon. Writing is much more difficult than learning how to take a picture with a camera. Mr. Lee should of realized that. It would of been better if he arranged his written words towards adult understanding not towards a child. That's way I wrote what I did; it is not an inaccurate assumption. CIAO, AP

I sell some of my pictures to a stock photo company. I sell some of my pictures as wall art, T shirts and other things off my website. I'm on a number of Facebook photography pages. Some have a different subject each day, week or month. Some have a specific theme such as wildlife, abandoned buildings, clouds etc. other Facebook pages I'm on are specific to certain areas like Florida /Georgia and cities like Daytona and St Augustine among others. Some of my pictures are treated basically the same way they used to be. I have them printed up and then I put them in albums which, honestly, spend most of their time stacked in a closet - with my parent's old picture albums - the way pictures have always done. Every so often someone will pull them all out and look through them so they can laugh at the way we dressed "back then" and wonder how we managed to live such primitive lives without flying cars, self-washing laundry or whatever else they have invented by then ...

I take photos because I started when I was 12 and I can't break the habit. I just love the whole process from the planning to printing.
