OK, I know that boards in a wooden fence are not the most popular of subjects, like beautiful sunrises/sunsets or breath taking landscapes. But when I noticed how the early evening sun was highlighting the texture in the boards in this fence, I thought this could be an opportunity for some interesting shots, focusing on the texture in the wood. My first attempt, when hand holding the camera, was less than successful. When viewing the photos on the computer screen, there clear evidence of camera shake. So I came back the next evening with my camera securely mounted on a nice sturdy tripod. The difference was immediately obvious. I had only about a 10 minute window of time for shooting these, as it was only during these few minutes that the sunlight/shadow effect was most visible. These are best viewed in download, and if you click to enlarge after downloading, the textures are most obvious. Comments are welcome, and I hope you enjoy.

#3 This was my final shot. Within 3 or 4 minutes after this, the area was fully in shade.

Very nice. That could be a view from a plane.
Nice work Tom the lighting really does work artistically.

It's not as popular, as a sunset your right, but everyone can see the sunset and the sunrise,
We have a saying for that
Can't see the forest, through the trees
Thank you for noticing such a beautiful opportunity, that most of us would just pass on by without a second thought !!
I really enjoyed these photos and I will be keeping a closer eye on everyday objects like this from now on!!
Very appealing, Tom. The color is so rich and warm and the texture adds dimension.
A good photographer are you. Nice texture shots.
Fascinating photos. You have a good eye for what I would call unusual shots. Most people would not have seen the textures that you saw. Good work.

Thank you very much Jerry for taking a look. Yes, photographs like these, especially when enlarged, can take on the appearance of something entirely different.

Thank you so much Jim for looking in and commenting. I think these images show that even something as mundane as boards in a fence can provide some unusual images when the light strikes them at just the right angle.

Thank you very much JEEPER for looking in and commenting. I do try to be aware of photo opportunities, even in the smallest and most obscure places, and sometimes it pays off. I'm glad to know that this may help you to keep your eyes open for more opportunities like this.

Thank you very much Carol for taking a look and commenting. I think these images just illustrate once again the importance of the quality and direction of light and how it can affect a subject, even one as ordinary as boards in a fence.

Thank you very much Tikva for taking a look and for your comments. I just try to keep my eyes open and be aware of things that would often be overlooked. I'm sure I have also missed some good photo ops, but have also been successful with a few.
