I got my Nikon P900 in November 2016. My tripod fell over and crushed the lens in February. Rendered inoperable, User caused damage. They replaced the lens and got everything working again - no charge
This month I noticed that I had a big scratch all the way across my lens and that the rim of the lens had a good sized crack in it. Again, User caused damage. They replaced the lens and lens tube in one week and my camera arrives back tomorrow. Again, no charge. Do I need to take better care of my camera? You betcha. Am I tickled pink with the Nikon warranty repair services, done by (United Electronics Group? Oh Hell yes!

I would have never have believed it if I didn't read it on Ugly. That's very impressive. Most warranties only cover manufacture mistakes.

Yes, I admit, as a wildlife photographer scrambling over rocks, hiking around ponds, creeks, and trees and navigating through less than pedestrian terrain, I will sometimes take my camera out of it's Plexiglas protective box in my safe room, venture outside and actually use it. Sometimes it suffers a ding. Oh well. I already copped to my idiocy, but you guys go the extra mile and kick a guy when he's down. Har Har.

Do yourself a favor, Sell the camera and maybe buy some stock in Canon. With Nikon giving away repairs like that they surly will go bankrupt.

Wow, impressive! And good for you for going the extra mile to get your shots. Sometimes photography is a physical hobby and we can't all walk around in bubble wrap. Just keep an eye on your gear because who knows how long Nikon will continue to fix it for free. Or....maybe you should invest in that bubble wrap?? LOL

Hey I'm with you my friend--I have a shoe box full of crushed lenses. Life happens, and the camera goes everywhere with me. I too chase wildlife, and that's not an activity where you sit on the sideline with a boxcar full of equipment. Nikon rocks. They fix stuff. Their people do a phenomenal job!

I clicked on this just because I wanted to read a positive post about service. (I also own Nikon but have yet to need their service dept, as all of their lenses and bodies have worked like a boss for many years!) Thanks for the story; smashed equipment means you're out there doing it rather than poking around thinking about it. My teenage son has similar stories about why his iPhone often comes back smashed or drowned, but at least he has been out there in the 3 dimensional world, while his younger siblings sit at home playing with other electronic devices.

That line tickled me. I too have teenagers, including one who is expert at destroying, and somewhat competent at repairing, bicycles. At least he's outside. My camera gets me outside, and I credit it with at least 20 lbs of fat that I'm not dragging around with me. That alone is worth scratches, bumps and scrapes, and the occasional new lens.

My dog went after another dog, the leash got wrapped around the tripod, down went baby cradle and all. Mine's pretty sturdy but that's asking a lot.
