A herd of about 150 fallow deer live nearby. The shot shows a small group of them.

Thanks very much. Not quite a wall hanger I think but I will enter it in my next Camera Club B&W competition with expectations of some degree of success.

As this is in the Critique Section, I will give mine. I once took a similar photo and a Judge told me that the deer on its own breaks the photo in two and doesn't add to it, so don't include it.

Also, it is said that a large photo beats a small one any day, as it has more impact, so I hope that your photo will A4 or larger. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your input. I've cropped the image to remove the deer on the left and it greatly improves the image

I am glad it helped to improve the photo. I am still learning.

I note that you asked for critique and thought that perhaps you should have put it under "For Your Consideration" where you will get a lot of feedback and good advice. That is where I usually "hang out". You could ask Admin to move it there. Just send them an e-mail if you want.

There is a lot more that can be done with your photo, but I will leave that to the professionals, so moving it to the other section would be a good idea.

Well, there is a great deal I enjoy about this photo. I would print it and put it on my wall. One of my main likes is that it is just different in so many ways. Great attraction for me. You can tell who is in charge while the others graze, for sure. Sandy

I think this is a marvelous capture. The arrangement of the deer, the combination of those on point and those grazing is very well done. In my opinion the vignetting is too strong, too large and sort of overpowers the image. So what was your intention here? Is it to make us "see" the deer through a curtain or mist parted briefly? If so, that's effective. Maybe there's something at the edges that needs to be hidden?

There is nothing at the edge which needed to be hidden.

The shot was taken about two weeks ago but I wanted it to have an autumnal feel. I tried to create it by using the haze function in PS but that just didn't work. I played around for a while in Silver Efecs and the version I posted was the closest to what I wanted to achieve - as you have suggested above - mist parting.

I know it's not perfect but it gives me a bit of a buzz and that's what I like to achieve with my photography.
