D750 Virtual Horizon and Roll Indicator

Greetings All. Recently purchased Nikon D750. Lovin' it so far. Watching John Greengo's course on D750 at creativelive.com. He shows that the viewfinder can display a roll indiator by assigning it to fn button. However when I so assign, the fn button does turn on virtual horizon, but it only shows side to side scale, not front to back scale. I'm not sure which is pitch and which is roll, but I believe I'm seeing roll, but not pitch. I must be missing something. Help please.

My D500 has the same type of virtual horizon. The virtual horizon displayed in the viewfinder only shows black bars at the bottom of the screen that shift to the left and right. The pitch and roll virtual horizon is displayed on the back LCD screen. The viewfinder virtual horizon can be assigned to the preview (PV) or function (Fn) button. I put the pitch and roll virtual horizon in My Menu. I'm not sure if that can be assigned to the PV and Fn buttons.

The D500 has an Fn2 button on the back of the camera. I assigned My Menu to that button. I loaded My Menu with frequently used functions including the pitch and roll virtual horizon.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm seeing. What threw me was that John Greenco's video shows the view in the viewfinder, and in that view you can clearly see the black indicators on both the bottom and the side of the viewfinder. That second set of (pitch or roll?) indicator on the side never is displayed in my viewfinder.

Pitch is nose down or tail down. Roll is left or right wing down. Yaw is nose left or right.
