How I recovered from a bad eclipse shot

Not proud of this but my eclipse shots were out of focus. I think you can see where I am going here to salvage something. This is what I had to work with. From my bad eclipse shot I was able to save an OK eclipse corona. Prior to this I had a good preliminary sun shot. And I had had a good full moon shot.

What did you do differently? Your adjustment for the full sun (photo 2) should have worked flawlessly! But even though photo 1 is very decent!

I put them together in Photoshop kinda like they naturally happened and using blend modes came up with this. It's not a natural shot, the color was not like that. Everyone knows that but I decided to leave it that way to show it was Photoshopped.
