I hate to ask, but do the camera manufactures pay Pros or others to write reviews on their new cameras to encourage consumers to purchase them? Just wondering because I see and read a lot reviews.

I have observed that certain camera manufacturers use pros to promote their equipment. I believe they get paid in some form. For me the best input I get is from customer verified reviews at B&H. I also check Amazon and Adorama.

Example: Moose Peterson is a Nikon Ambassador. They give him new equipment, he tests it and writes a review. Many folks consider his evaluations worthwhile. Myself included.

DP Review is owned by Amazon. I can see it easy for people to draw their conclusions from that fact.

LOL Nikon sure the heck doesn't pay me for my reviews! They should (I'm sure I've sold hundreds - if not thousands of D500s based on my YT review), but they haven't sent me so much as a T-shirt.

Not just in the camera business but in most every business certifications and reviews can be bought...

They don't give you free cameras? Free lenses? Free gear?

They should at the least give you per-production new stuff to test. Right?

I pulled up Ken Rockwell's website to see what he has to say. There's something new from the last time I read Ken. At the bottom, it indicates that if you print out anything from his website, since it's copyrighted, even for personal use, you must send him $5.00 via PayPal.

Yes I'm sure all the major printer manufacturers are now going to include a KR print button that automatically sends him $5.00 on every use when on his site ;)

It has been awhile since I was in grad school, but we copied the heck out of books and journals when doing research for papers. Basically it was determined to be personal use and acceptable. The question had come up. It's the same reason you'll find copy machines in public libraries. I have to question Rockwell's demand.

You must have been late to the party, Steve. When Nikon had the introduction parties for the D5/d500, the first 50 people in the door got a free polo shirt or baseball cap.
