Exporting full res DNG files from OS X Photos v2.0

It seems the only way to export a full res DNG, or other raw form, photo from Photos (File>Export>Export>Export Unmodified Original for 1 Photo) is in its original unedited form. Obviously, this is no good if the file has been edited. If I use the command (File<Export 1 Photo) that allows the edited file to be exported, it is a compressed (down to about 1/3 of original size) .tiff file. This is maddening when trying to e-mail a full res photo. Is there a way to accomplish this using Photos and Mail or do I have to involve another app?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You cannot edit or alter a raw file; a raw file is not a picture file - jpg and tiff are picture files.

If you can export a full size tiff image, that will be as close as you can get, but the tiff file size will probably be greater than the original raw file. I don't know Photos, but can you not export the tiff as a lossless compressed file?

Does Photos generate an xmp file? This could be sent to your recipient with the original raw file and if he/she has the appropriate software, the image may be opened with edits.

The other problems are: 1. the email recipient, would he/she have the resources to open the raw file? 2. Would the email carrier be able to handle very large files?

You mentioned a DNG file. These are different because they should contain the edits within the dng encapsulation. Can your recipient open DNG files? (Its a little like have the raw file, a jpeg file and the edits all bound up into a package).

In the Export 1 photo dialog, click the little down arrow and you can adjust the export settings to go up to full size.
