I'm moving to Lima Peru for 18 months. I have a Canon 80 D with kit lenses: EF-S 18-55 & EF-S 55-250. I plan to buy an EF-S 10-18.
I don't want to carry around a camera bag, but would prefer some kind of pouch or sling. What do you recommend?
a think tank holster would do you. The pop down extender for long lenses would take the extra lens I think, carry it shoulder strap, or on your belt

I would highly recommend the Tamrac Velocity 8x. They are no longer made, but are amazingly versatile. I like mine so much I bought a spare and the slightly larger 9x for future use.
Very well made, can be used as a backpack, shoulder sling, or front pouch. Will take an 80D with battery pack and all the lenses you mention.
I have side pouches for mine, so can accommodate camera with battery pack, six lenses and 580 ex II flash. It's my standard grab bag. Good for town, mountain, and airline travel either under the seat or overhead bins even on small aircraft.
Google it, then check ebay. There are some still available.
This is a steal:

I really like my Think Tank TurnStyle 20. I can carry my camera and 2 or 3 lenses. Check it out.

Recently I decided not to use a backpack and found a "fanny pack" that works great. It was designed for artists to carry around their paints, brushes, etc. Brand: Cheap Joe's Art Stuff. Very well made, probably could find a different brand, but this one was at an estate sale. Everything closes with zippers. It can be worn with pouches in front or back. I put what I want into it, put it in the car along with the camera and tripod, then put it on when I arrive wherever I am going to be taking pictures.
It has two center pouches that can hold lenses [padding is something you would have to provide], on each side there is one long [but smaller] pouch and two very small pockets.
Largest center pocket is approximately 11" x 6" x 3" smaller one approximately 10" x 5" x 2". Smallest pockets are great for spare batteries, SD cards, allen wrench, lens clothes and brushes, etc. Larger side pockets can hold a wallet, spare glasses, etc.

A messenger bag might work.
I'm with Bird Dog. The Think Tank Turnstyle series comes in 3 sizes. I have the medium and the large. The large will accommodate your camera & lens and 2 additional lenses (unless you have a really long telephoto). What I really like is that I can go all day without having to take it off to access my camera and lenses. To get a different lens, just 'rotate' the bag to your front and everything is accessible through the zipper on the top. In most cases, I can carry everything I need (filters, SD cards, extra battery, lens cleaners) that I need. I have a heavy duty Think Tank bag. It's great but I got tired of constantly taking it off, opening it up to get different lens and then slinging it on my back again. The Turnstyle bag has become my main bag, even for trips overseas.

Great minds think alike. I bought an extra small Timbuk2 messenger bag. That, along with an inexpensive padded camera insert from Amazon, is perfect for my Sony a6000 with 18-105 and 10-18 lenses, plus room for a few accessories.
Look around until you find what you like.
Take a look at the Thule backpack camera bags. Versatile, heavy padding on the straps, lots of storage, rain cover concealed in the pack, straps for your tripod/monopod.Even with a heavy load it's comforatable and can be carried on board an aircraft. They don't just make car carriers anymore.
My 2 cents... I recommend a baby diaper bag. Lots of pockets, usualy waterproof, cheap to buy, and best of all.....no one steals a diaper bag. Enjoy the rain forest. Happy shooting
I am very satisfied with the Lowepro waist pac, Lowepro Inverse 200 AW Beltpack (Black) B&H # LOI200AWB MFR # LP35236. Take a look at the B&H site. The 200 is a bit larger than the 100 but carries more, which is what I wanted. Now I can lean forward and use my DSLR without something slipping off my shoulder. Well made bag and with the waist strap buckled you can sling on your shoulder for quick carry or belted around your waist for a day out. Good luck.
By the way, there is a kit that includes the EF-s 10-18 and a EF 50mm 1.8 prime for maybe $40 more. The 10-18 retail is $287 and the 50 1.8 prime is about $125. In the kit for around $320 you get both lenses. Again look at B&H. Both lenses for the money are very good. If you are happy with the EF-S 18-55 & EF-S 55-250, you will be happy with these as well.

I got a waist/shoulder/sling bag from eBay some time ago. It doesn't hold everything but it holds enough for the day, depending on what I plan to shoot. I.e. a flash, one or two lenses, as well as tiny stuff like a shutter remote, extra battery & charger, a.s.o.
Works great for me.
I have a Lowepro Sling bag. (
http://www.lowepro.com/camera-sling-bags) and have been very happy with it. I can move it out of the way to rest on my back when shooting and pull it to the front for changes. It has 3 external pouches I use for lens tissue, snacks & water, and an adjustable internal padding system. I can carry a Canon 70D, 4 lenses, flash, filters, spare batteries & SD cards, plus assorted cables.Look at the Lowepro site to make a choice but best prices are from B&H.
