Wow an improvement over the D810.

A built-in flash can be a very convenient trigger for off-camera flashes...

The flash is used as a master to fire strobes or speedlights.
I have not owned a build-in flash since 08, but in a pinch I really miss it. To have to attached a flash is a real PITA!
Not having a flash is rarely convenient.
I shoot in the rain so I'm glad the flash is NOT there, but that's a necessity, not a convenience.
For quick and dirty lighting, the flash if highly missed by me.
So to answer a previous responders question, I'd use it a lot if I had it!!!

Many pros use a built in flash for lots of reasons.
That said, no pro cameras have a flash!!

My D500 doesn't have a built-in flash either. The thinking is that advanced photographers will use a flash that's better than a built-in flash. Not having a built-in flash makes the camera body stronger.

I've been down this road before. Nearly two years ago, Pentax released the K-3ii, a top-tier camera lacking what I called the "weak point-source OnBoard Flash", and various users reacted with words like "deal breaker". I had thought those flashes were primarily remnants from consumer level cameras, used to emphasize important moments, such as the beginning of NASCAR races. My personal opinion is that for out-of-studio uses, the field is going to follow advances pioneered by cameras such as the D500 and the Pentax KP, providing ever higher ISO values while limiting noise, and using flash for fill purposes only.

For my camera with a built-in flash, I use it as a commander for external off the camera flashes. For those cameras, without a flash, I attach a flash or a remote sending unit

I carry the Nikon SB300 for the few times I've used a flash with my D500. Mostly indoor and I bounce the light. I'm ok with not having a built in flash.

Yet another sour grapes story. I am happy U are not considering this camera, maybe some one who knows how to use a add on flash can get better use out of it. Just like most of us who know that a separate flash is the BEST way to get pleasing results. BYE BYE

Only people with good sense. Guess that knocks out about 99% of the posters on this site.
