Fixing a Lumix FZ-1000: Worth it?

After only 2.5 years of occasional use, a ring in the lens of my wife's Lumix FZ-1000 came unglued and jammed the camera (see attached pic). The camera wasn't dropped or mistreated in anyway. When we brought it into the camera store, they said that they had seen this before and would have to send it into Panasonic. When we contacted Panasonic about the cost of a repair (it is no longer on warranty), they said that we would have to send it in before they could estimate the cost of a repair. Just wondering if any one else has had this problem and if so, how much would it cost to repair? Thanks for any suggestions.

Sold listings on eBay show working and clean examples selling in high numbers from $425 to $500. Get the quote and go on that. If the quote is $200 to $300, I'd do the fix. If your experience with the camera would not encourage you to buy another, I would put it on eBay as "parts or repair". It's very surprising how much parts/repair cameras sell for on eBay. Look up Panasonic FZ1000 (for parts and repair)and see what they are selling for. The prices are often quite high and you may recoup significant dollars for a camera not working.

eBay is the definitive source of accurate information on situations like this, because the date on prices can be accurately reviewed.

Thanks Kuzano for your suggestions. I can't seem to find any Panasonic FZ1000 for parts and repair on eBay. Probably would go with another company after this experience.

we have camera repair right here on the site. His name is Rick Riggins. He is in the Denver area. His prices are very reasonable. He had done some work for me and I am very satisfied.

I have telephone chatted with Rick, who had 30-years experience. His website: http://www.discountcamerarepair.com

Repair can be expensive. Here's what they've sold for on ebay recently.

Only your wife can determine if it's worth it to her to get it repaired. If that happened to my FZ-1000, I would definitely send it in to be repaired. It's a great camera. I just had my Nikon P610 repaired, another great camera - the lens ceased to focus properly and the automatic switch/sensor that sensed when the eye was looking through the viewfinder quit. The total cost including postage to and from the repair facility was a little over $150. It was worth it to me to get it fixed.
