From time to time, I have been a little jealous of my wife's Kindle. She has the plain jane one, as she has no need for color or video. She just reads books on it. What I like is that the only time it uses battery is when she changes pages. So battery life is superb.
the reason I haven't bought one is that most of the photographic magazines and books, have color illustrations, which I think are imperative for our use.
The bad thing is that I have to carry books around, and I'm now thinking I'd like to get a Kindle Fire so that I can just have my photographic magazines and reference material in one little device that I can have in my camera bag.

Who all uses a Kindle Fire, and do you happen to know of a good source with inexpensive deals?

Great color and fast response, but at $200 I've never seen a sale. Read the reviews at http://goo.gl/bQFMV

I was afraid of that. I think I'll wait until this Fall when newer models will be talked about in time for Christmas. The price on the current models should drop.

I have owned mine since November. I have never seen any sales on it. It's always $199. However, I do love it. I just bought Bryon Peterson's Understanding Exposure because someone on this site recommended it. His example photos are very clear and sharp on the Fire. I also have just the e reader and books like this don't work well with that. No color and pictures are hard to see. I have not been sorry that I spent the money for the Fire.

Precisely why I am considering getting the Kindle Fire instead of the one that my wife has. All of the photo books I use have color illustrations.

I will add that I downloaded the Kindle For PC app, and it works just fine. I have a book on it that I bought, and have proven to myself that I definitely like the reading experience for the Kindle Fire. I want one, but will wait until the newer models are released for the Christmas rush. The price on the current model should drop $50 or more.

Buy and enjoy now, or wait three months for a sale...

Les,

Office Max runs an occasional 20% off sale on everything you can fit in a grocery size bag. I picked up my kindle fire a couple of months ago using that sale. Also, they marked it down another 20% (after I asked) because the box was opened.

So get on their mailing list and they will send you the 20% off bag the next time they run the sale.

I have the PicShop Photo Editor. It is a fun app that let's you some PP on photos stored on the Fire. It does a lot more than advertised. You just have to experiment.
