Has there ever been a posted list of any digital cameras of any kind to beware of? Cameras that were discontinued by their maker because of a serious flaw? I ask because I purchased one in the past in which the thing froze up entirely leaving only an exclamation Mark on the screen. Such a list would be invaluable if purchasing a used camera.

The Nikon D600 had a multitude of shutter problems before it was discontinued.
My D750 was recalled and it was repaired and works like a champ. Nikon did a wonderful job.
I wonder if dpreview might have a list of dogs.

LOL The D600 suffered more from bad PR than its admittedly bad shutter problem, which was eventually resolved. When Nikon
did finally get the shutter problem worked out, they tweaked the camera a bit and then kept it in the lineup by renaming it the D610.

The Nikon D600 had serious issues.

Bill, if I may disagree, the D6oo had one serious issue and that was a poorly designed shutter which was eventually replaced. To my mind the real serious issue was Nikon pretending there wasn't any issue at all until the pimple became a boil. If they had handled the problem the same as they're now doing with the D750 shutter we probably would have never seen a D610. Bottom line to me is, the D600 is a good camera with horrible PR.

Check your camera manufacturer's website.

No, I now disagree, the Nikon D600 was BAD. Period.
I am sure if Nikon had known they never would have released it. Just like the airbags, the shutter was produced by out sourcing. You get what you out source.

Operative word;
WasThe single issue has been resolved.
(single: unaccompanied by others : lone, sole)

Again, NOT SO. The same shutter that Nikon purchased from out sourcing was to be resolved by the time the D750 came out. Well, guess what, I guess Nikon was too forgiving to those out sourced shutters cause they came back to bite them again with the D750. So, as it appears, it is not lone or sole problem. So sorry to correct you but I felt I must.

Oh I get it now! We have gone from the D600 discussion to a discussion of Nikon and their choice of vendors, rather than the single shutter issue with the D600 and your belief that it made the 600 a bad camera. And by extension the 610, as they are in reality the same.

Very good, I think your on board now.
The Nikon D600 shutter problem was really serious at least on some cameras like mine (although everybody I knew with a D600 had the serious shutter problem). Yes, Nikon finally admitted a problem, but by then I was so tired of not being able to use the camera effectively and cloning out oil spots that I had switched to the Canon 6D. I have stayed with Canon because I decided I liked the ergonomics better, but I would have stayed with Nikon had they admitted there was a problem and fixed the shutter much sooner. So, yes, there have been cameras that are real duds. As far as I know, however, the D600 works fine, now that they replaced the shutter (I really haven't used it much since then). I would not hesitate to recommend a refurbished D600 to anyone; except for the spots it was great. But, I sure wouldn't want one with the oil spots, so in that sense, yes there can be cameras to avoid.
I did learn one thing my Nikon D600 experience; I learned to wet clean the sensor. That wasn't a skill I especially wanted, but it has proved useful.
