He has gone far too soon. Whether or not you are an Apple or Ipod user, Steve Jobs was a brilliantly creative thinker who changed our world forever.
Note: I somehow didn't think this belonged in chit-chat, sorry.
I hate to think what our lives would be like now if Steve Jobs hadn't been gifted to us. He was a remarkable man and the world has lost a real treasure.

He'll go down as one of the greatest men in American History.

he had a partner who was the inventive genius behind apple.Jobs like bill gates was a superior marketer and businessman. Everyone forgets the other steve with the polish last name. Jobs like henry ford and howard hughes will go down as one of the most important businessmen of all time.

you're thinking of Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Jobs and did most of the real "creating"... Jobs, like Gates, was a marketing genius, but relied on others to really create and perfect the technology.

+1. Wozniak was the technical brains behind the early Apple computers. Jobs was the marketing puke. Very smooth talker, very 'chummy' if you had something he wanted. Could sell a freezer to an Eskimo kind of guy.
Here's an interesting story for you - one of the very first public displays of the first Apple computer was at the East Coast Computer Faire in Atlantic City, NJ in 1976. Jobs and Woz manned the card table with "Apple Computers" on the sign. At the end of the first day, they were returning to their hotel room, and as they got on the elevator, a little old lady started whacking them with her umbrella.Their hairy-hippie disheveled look convinced her they were local muggers (of which there were several thousand in AC at the time). In a few years, they both had enough money to buy the whole town if they wanted....

Yes, but Wozniak is alive. I was just saying goodbye to Steve Jobs. He died of cancer after a long battle. He deserves a mention. The rest is irrelevant.
Actually, Jobs is responsible for both Apple, and Microsoft, since Gates worked for Apple before striking out on his own.

What? In what universe did you hear that? Gates never worked for Apple. He dropped out of Harvard to start Microsoft with Paul Allen, in Albuquerque in the mid 70s, then moved it to Bellvue where it sits to this day.
Woz is alive... and teaching. They were pals till the end. The best quote came from Obama who said "The greatest tribute to Steve was the fact than many of us learned of his passing on a device he invented." Rest In Peace...

As usual, BO is a bit off the mark. All of Job's patents are in concert with Apple engineers. The only thing he even remotely "invented" himself was the trash can icon that changed from empty to full when you dropped something in it.
All this foaming at the mouth over him really misses the point. Jobs was an "idea" man who's technical prowess was, to say the least, somewhat limited. He'd dream up these cool things, and then charge the engineers and scientists with actually getting them designed and built. I think classing him with Edison and Bell and others like them is a disservice. He's closer to Ray Kroc than Thomas Edison.
