I had read, in the local paper, that Venus would transit the sun for only the second time this century. The time of transit had been posted.
I noted I had 30 minutes to set something up. I wanted to try and get it!
But....
No way was there enough time for me to drive down into town (40 mile round trip) to get a solar filter...
So....
I improvised.....with my welder's helmet. I did some fast 'playing' around and found I could mount my camera, a D70S on a tripod, and using the electronic remote shutter release, I could shoot through the helmet I was holding with my left hand..
I don't remember the specifics, other than I was using a Nikkor 55-300 zoom, with a Nikon Auto Focus-S FX TC-20E III Teleconverter Lens. (I think it was.)
The image I shot, was terrible, but I got the transit and *it*, albeit tiny, was reasonably sharp.
Needless to say, I was quite pleased with myself, to have actually captured an event that won't happen again until the next century
I will be a bit (sic) more prepared Monday, with solar filters for all three of my Nikon cameras', (D70S, D7000, and a D610) lenses.
Start laughing! :)

At least you got it; that's more than most can say.
Nice job. I did my viewing today with a welder's helmet. I found it a lot more protective than those paper "glasses."
