My wife uses her iPhone and an old Sony DSC from 2001. I routinely photos from both through LR to make minor enhancements or corrections. Both only take JPGs, the Sony 5MP, the iPhone 8 or 12MP (I forget which). When the the iPhone photo works, it's great, if not enlarged too much. If an adjustment is needed, the iPhone photo is already so over-processed there is little that can be done. In image quality, the old DSC wins hands down. This is why phones won't soon replace cameras.
If you're only taking snapshots or documenting a moment or don't have a real camera with you, a smart phone is great. If I'm in a place with insufficient light for my old camera's limited ISO abilities (and where flash is not allowed or is inappropriate), a phone is better than nothing. I use a phone on my lunchtime walks to remind me of places I want to come back to with a camera. (If I were a little less lazy, I'd always have a camera with me.)
The phone camera has its place, but it won't do what a real camera will do, not even a very old real camera.
Similar argument years ago. Nothing new. In the real world little has changed, but it has evolved. I still use my phone to contact people, my camera to take photos. The only thing I would consider is returning to the old flip phone for size and convenience when my smarter-than-me phone is ready for the electronic junk pile. Maybe I am a throw-back. lol
Please pardon my ignorance- what does ILC mean?
