We had a very wet day whilst away recently and spent most of it chilling-out in the rented cottage. Later in the day I noticed the raindrops on this plant, right outside the window. Not my usual sort of subject really, and I struggled a bit. In the end I realised the majority of drops needed to be in focus, or close to - certainly not fuzzy, if it was going to work.
In processing, I found I needed to crop more than I'd expected, as a mass of drops on the main body of the plant just made a confused picture. This is what I came up with and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.
Nice shot of a common happening seen in a different light. Very sharp that needs to be viewed in download.
Could crop the bottom 40%, would have a totally different and interesting look.

I have that version Jim, and debated with myself which to post! Thanks for commenting.

Would have been nice to have the lower center background part sharp but I don't find it overly objectionable....maybe some judicious cloning could improve....
Composition has some strange simple effects. This photo has one such element... the single sprig 1/4 from left, ending mid way up... it points to the bloom. I feel this is a simplisticly beautiful photo with subtle colors. Excellent you are sparking with this one magnetoman**.

magnetoman, this one is quite unique. I can see a reference to Friedrich Nietzsche's statement, "From chaos comes order". You captured the frenzied foundation towards the bottom of the frame. From there a sprig reaching to attract our attention with a congregation of droplets to augment the simple beauty. Nicely done and worth the effort.

I shot the fierce rain storm yesterday and the shot looked like something you would see on the weather channel. Nothing special and here you made a frame-able picture using the rain. Cheers all around to you.

I would not crop this image. I like the way the main flower emerges from the tangle at the bottom. That tangle, however, is necessary. Beyond that, I agree with what has already been said. A good effort and one that prompted me to go out in the yard (we just had a thunderstorm) and shoot some drops myself. If any of them are decent, I'll post. Thank you.
Erich
You did a fine job with the composition of the subject. I find I'm on the fence in regards to the DOF. Some of the plant is a little too fuzzy in appearance as it stands out against the sharp blackness of the background.
Effects like this are all about quality rather than quantity. We haven't seen the full shot but I suspect that this reduced version is the better of the two. I'm left wondering if it needs to be as dark as it is. That's not a criticism of the black background - I suspect that the plants might benefit from being a bit brighter.
I liked this shot even before I did the download. I think what did it for me is the black background. For me it that made the raindrops on those delicate branches.

Excellent piece of work. Almost reduced to just two colours, black and green. With most of it pin sharp. I could look it for hours and if I'd taken it, it would be on the wall now.

My thanks to everyone for commenting and critiquing, I do appreciate your thoughts and help.
For those that wanted the centre section more focussed, I have a shot and have decided to show you the whole thing - and for RG, I've left it much brighter. I prefer the cropped and darkened version personally, and should have used this shot rather than the original post. The problem was, as I carried on shooting, the wind was blowing the droplets off. I was having to wait for a lull to shoot, and each time there were a few less drops! I think highlights in the background foliage catch the eye too much, hence the dark version is my favourite.
I can see why you prefer the crop. The bottom half is just a bit too busy. I think you could have left the background nearly black, or at least with toned down Highlights. But the water drops will benefit from all the sparkle you can give them.
