Mary H. Begay has been weaving since the age of 14. She a member of the Navajo Nation and resides in her home community of Ganado, Arizona. Mrs. Begay has dedicated her life to perfecting her skills and making an impact in her community, tribal nation, and worldwide through the art of traditional rug weaving. For over 35 years, Mary Begay provided Navajo rug weaving demonstrations for the public at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. Each day Mrs. Begay would weave and answer questions from visitors about the art of Navajo weaving. Community school groups, tour groups, international visitors, community members and co-workers watched, listened, learned and enjoyed the knowledge Mrs. Begay shared. I had the pleasure of meeting her in 2001 at the Hubbell Trading Post. She was kind and warm hearted and modest. I shot some photos of her, but not enough, I wish I had taken more. Meeting her and being at the Hubbell Trading Post was for me, just a slight, brief connection with Arizonas history and the true Old West. She is an an Arizona treasure.

Nice set. I have been there several times and never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Begay. I also do some Navaho weaving but not as intricate as hers.
Wonderful set and a very nice story to go with it. She sounds like a national treasure. We seem to have so few of them today.
Very nice series of photos, and great narrative.
