580 EX II Speedlite

I'm getting a this speedlite and wondering if it's compatible with my 7D MKII? I know I should have checked first, but I had a GAS attack! I looked on the Canon site and the 7D MK II isn't showing up as a compatible unit. I figured they're both Canon products how could I go wrong!

Thanks for your help.

Usually in your user guide it will list compatible devices. As long as the 580 didn't come out after the 7d2

Great!
Thank you, I reread the Canon site and it clearly states it's compatible with all ETTL/TTL cameras.

Yes. It's a great flash, I have two and also a 580 EX. They all work together well as either masters or slaves. I also have the ST-E2 controller. It's a great setup unless you need wireless triggering instead of optical, but it works very well for me. Enjoy!

Thanks Peter. I had a Alutra (cheapie but worked ok with my T5i), but it wasn't compatible with my 7D. I almost got a mint 600EX-RT but it slipped away.

Don't you hate it when that happens! However patience is a virtue, and things like this come around again eventually. Unless you REALLY need radio signals you'll find the 580 EX optical system plenty versatile enough. Have fun.

I would also second the ST-E2 controller. The 580 is great and for a great "system," add the ST-E2 controller and 430a or two as secondary guns. You can find some great buys used on them.

According to Rudy Winston (Canon) there is "no loss of functionality" on your camera with the 580EXII. May want to check out some of the newer models from Yongnuo and save a few bucks. I do not believe the 580EX II is still in production. Something to consider. That said, purchased a used 430EXII years ago and it continues to function flawlessly.

Can you explain your comment please? "No loss of functionality"? What is that supposed to mean, specifically related to the 580 EXII. Sure the 580 EXII has been replaced by the 600EX RT but why should that be a consideration? I still have Canon flashes from the 1980s that function flawlessly also.

However, your comment just doesn't make any sense to me. Can you clarify, please.
