I have downloaded photoshop CS2, and have learned a few things. What can I do with the background of this female killdeer? I think the shot of her is worth improving the background. I would appreciate any help/suggestions.

It looks like you were panning when you took the shot!

The background gives this shot some dynamic, if you replace it, I think, it would "dull" the image!

With out plugin software designed to isolate the background .use the magnetic lasso to cut the bird out , go to edit copy merged ,then edit paste the bird will be on a separate layer , you can bring in a better background layer below the bird an blend...or go to background layer , go to blur, drop down then Gaussian or motion and adjust to your desire , place below bird layer then merge visible .Motion blur horizontal move slider till it blends better...Gaussion can make it more blurred....

I like it, but as I said I would leave it alone. To me it is an interesting shot, because of the movement. The bird by itself not so much, it is not caught in a position, that by itself garners attention/interest, but as a whole, I really like it!

A bit confusing it appears the bird is moving but real fast but with out seeing the legs that is what is confusing...

That is very true. Never thought about it that way. I came upon her nest, and she started playing the injured bird game, so she was scooting around on her body real close to the ground, and not using her legs to run with. It is what it is. Thank you for your time to reply.

Nikonbrain, I messed up and "quote replied" after the wrong post. The description of "why no legs" was for you. Thanks again

Makes more sense now , interesting bird though , the reason I was suggesting a stronger blur was it would stall the appearance of forward moment anchoring the bird and looking more like bokeh verses movement....There is a plugin for that to isolate the bird and create bokeh with a focus bug....a term they use for the area of influence of the plugin..I have used it on few nesting birds to make it look like your in a blind .

I think the shot is interesting. I like the blurred background. It shows the bird was moving. Or you were.
