Shot in RAW mode, with a Nikon D70S, Nikor 28-200 lens at 200mm. Aperture Priority 1/100, F11, 0 deviation and ISO 200.
There was dust in the air and we were just leaving Saguaro National Park, East. We were perfectly positioned to see the sun set into the 'V' of the Tucson Mountains, West of Tucson. The reflection of the sun's setting light was perfectly framed and as the camera was on the seat of the car, I pulled over and was able to grab, the once in a lifetime shot.
Not contest worthy, but one I am very proud of! I hope you can enjoy it as much as I still do!
Looks like a volcano blowing its top.

I was sad to read the Four Corners Restaurant had closed. It was fun to eat in the big room and watch all the animals come up and eat the food put out by staff.
I grew up in Tucson. My step dad, Orville Short, and Win Mutterer started Hacienda Del Sol Estates, and he built our home there by himself. He was also one of the big shots with Lusk Construction that built 90% of Tucson back in the 50's. Went back in 1992 for the first time with my wife, who was attending a medical convention there. While she was hob-nob'ing with other medical attendees, I drove around Tucson and checked out what I remembered from my youth. Amazing how 30 plus years can change those 'old haunts'! :) Used to be, once one went West, to go over the Tucson Mountains to go to Old Tucson or the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, there was nothing but desert after crossing the Santa Cruz River until you reached the movie set or Museum, now, the Mountains are nothing but upper middle, to upper class homes!
I remember how Winterhaven's trees were all 6 to 10 foot trees. Now it is a forest! Some things never change though...The ice still breaks up on the Santa Cruz every spring/summer when the temp hits 100 for the first time. Only now, there is a contest to see who comes the closest. Forget what the prize is.
