I'am looking for new and interesting Effects to plugin to PSPX4.I downloaded Gimp but don't like what I see upon opening it.I'am what you would call Tech. challenged and don't need to learn another Program as I haven't even learned this one yet.
Also I'am looking for free one's as I'am poor right now.I also realize free and good don't usually go together but am hoping someone using the same program may have some ideas for me.

check on Topaz labs as I believe their products can be used with that software.

OnONe has a piece of software that can be used as a standalone product, not needing PS or what ever as a support base. It contains all of their products.

Topaz is working on a standalone version but have had a few problems lately and pulled the product until it is working better.

Nik has a great little peice of software for 20 dollars called snapseed, will do lot of interesing things and is easy to use. It doesn't provide a clone feature, but there is a very good peice of software called Photoscape that does. Those two together are usually terrific for beginners and or those who really don't want to get into more serious editing programs. Not a serious learning curve as well.

Nik has a ton of filters, depending on how much you care to spend - http://www.niksoftware.com/colorefexpro/usa/index.php and what you want to do. The basic set of filters (25) goes for about a hundred dollars (USD). However, you can also go X4 Pro Ultimate for about $60 and get Nik Color Efex Pro 3 (older version than currently being sold) with 52 filters, included. I have X4 Pro (not ultimate) and looking at the possibility of getting the filters myself.

I made an assumption that possibly I should not have made.

PSP has a Users Group. There you can find information on FREE and PAY plug-ins, filters, etc.

http://www.pspug.org/

You might want to check it out.

The procedure for adding plugins to PSP is relitively easy, but you must look it up... Topaz is a great group that you can usually buy at a discount by watching one of the webinars on line

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of free "Plugins" available for most versions of Pain Shop Pro. The plugin files used by Adobe Photo Shop work just as well on PSP.

When searching for free plugins for PSP look for the extension ".8bf", that is the secret for plugins that will work in PSP.

Hello JL,

From my experience with the Corel Group, PSP X4 is the bare bones update to its earlier version, PSP X4U comes with a boat load of plugins already installed in the program.

If you have not had a Paint Shop Pro version beginning with X2 then you would be wise to purchase the U version.

If you have had version X2, X3 and installed many plugins, filters, tubes, shapes, etc. from reliable sources on the Web then you will not need the U version. It will simply confuse you in trying to use the application.

Warning: PSP is not an easy image editing application to learn, BUT it is a lot easier than PhotoShop, and performs a lot more fine editing tasks then the free applications.

If you purchase PSP X4 there is a fine user group online everyday at cnews.corel.com, this is a newsgroup that is added to your e-mail client like a new mail account, the subheading is: corel.PaintShopProX4.

Hope to see you there,

Michael G
