Have any of you UHHers had prostate cancer that was treated with radiation? If so, how did it go?
Thank you for your response.
Yes and I opted for the seed implant instead of the bi-weekly radiation. The symptoms after the seed implant in my case were severe. There were times went could not urinate and had to go to the emergency room. They finally inserted a catheter and bag which helped tremendously. They finally taught me how to self cath which helped. After a while when the prostate finally shrunk things went back to normal. Some men have a enlarged prostate which makes urination painful and difficult anyway.
The seed implant went smoothly only took about an hour total and I was back home that same day. My PSA was elevated beyond 6 before and now it is around .01.

I had prostate cancer a few years ago. I started with hormone therapy and then went through 42 sessions of radiation. The treatments made me feel weak, but they worked and my PSA levels have been holding steady. I was not a good candidate for surgery so that was my only option. What ever treatment you decide on, follow through and keep the faith. Prostate cancer is very treatable in the early stages so don't wait too long. Good luck.

Have had several family & friends that have went thru this. So far I'm, Blessed. 72 years young. All I can do is send my Prayers out to all whom are fighting this and Pray for a cure !
I went through 43 radiation treatments four years ago for early stage prostate cancer. Went very well and painless. PSA counts have stayed at around 0.8 -1.2. This is a very easy, painless treatment process that I would recommend if you are a good candidate for this type of process. Voiding the bladder is back to normal too!!
My PSA was off the charts back in 2001.
Went to Mayo Clinic for radiation treatment.
Opted not to have the simultaneous hormone therapy.
I had 70 radiation sessions for 70 days in a row.
Felt nothing.
PSA dropped to zero, and remains there today.
No pain at all, no diminished functions of any kind.
I am now 86.
Glad to answer any questions.
5+ yrs after 5 CyberKnife treatments. EXCELLENT experience from Baptist Hospital in Lexington KY. PM if you'd like more details.

Thanks for your reply. Did you have to wear a diaper for poop?

Did you have the external radiation treatments?

Did you have the external radiation method?
I had it several years ago and opted out of radiation because I was told that it could affect the other organs in that area, bowel etc.

As stated in my post:"no diminished functions of any kind."
No I did not.
Mayo is very careful about using ‘targeted’ radiation techniques with exact body positioning and radiation shields.
On my lunch break, so won't be able to respond later.
I finished my 44 daily radiation treatments last January. The only issues that I had during the treatments was hemorrhoids the size of a garden hose, and they growled. Oh, and sun burn strip across my butt.
I did find that if I held my bladder too long I had a bowel movement when urinating. A month after treatments, everything is back to normal.
