A new (2009) Spanish galleon spent a few days in Kingston, NY. As you can see, there is nothing pretty about it. These galleons were built for business, the business of bringing treasure from the Americas back to Spain.

How do they keep up with all that rigging. I can't draw. Must be nice to need only a pad and pencil and no batteries.

Yeah, the rigging is ridiculous. So much of everything.

Even the Clearwater looks rustic up close. When it is underway with or without full sails, it is very majestic. A local photog took one from the bridge looking down and was fantastic.

Is this El Galleon? Her home port is St. Augustine, Florida and I think she is beautiful! I'm glad you got to see her.

No, it isn't. All the details are in the article I linked. It's appropriate that a Spanish galleon be docked in FL, considering all the "business" the Spanish did in that part of the world.

It IS the same ship. If you look at the banner going up the walkway, it says El Galeon. But they also call her by her given name of Andelucia. Not sure if I spelled that correctly. But I love your photos of her. I have yet to see her with her sails unfurled. Wouldn't that be a sight?!

Impressive - pleasure to view. We don't get ships here - have to go to one of the coast. Thanks, Jerry.

Ah! Very observant. I wonder how it came into that narrow creek (Rondout Creek) where it is docked. I doubt it has an engine.
