Auto Lens Calibration For D5, D500 and D7500

I wanted to share a video I just uploaded with any Nikon D5, D500, and D7500 users.

As you know, the cameras above all feature Nikon's Auto AF Fine Tune feature - and Auto Fine Tuning can often produce mixed results. Well, after a lot of testing, trail and error, I've outlined the method I use and it works just as well as using a commercial product. In the video below, I go though all of it, step by step. Check it out:

Plus, there's even a focus target you can download :)

Thanks Steve -- you're the best! I love your ebook @ Nikon's Focusing system. Learned quite a bit from it and I've been using Nikon exclusively since the F5.

I have your book; but I haven't read as far as this to use this feature; so I found your video to be quite useful. Now, I'll have to get all my lenses out and fine tune them if needed.

Thanks Steve, This was a great review after reading your Nikon AF E-book. I have the Lens Align Target and software and I need to pull it out to fine tune my new d500 with my lenses. I am going to compare the lens align value with the Nikon d500 system to see how they compare. The hard part is setting the whole thing up so doing it both ways should be easy.

Saw this yesterday, as usual it is great information Steve. I wish Nikon would make a zoom lens like Tamron or Sigma with a dock that you could adjust the fine tune at any focal length on the lens instead of the camera. Another nice feature would be if the lens remembers the camera and you could tune on the lens for different cameras.

Here's what'll drive you nuts - they'll probably be close and then you'll wonder which way to go LOL!

When I tested this against LensAlign and FoCal, it was usually within a point or two though - I was really surprised. (In fact, on my 300PF, FoCal said 6 and my average was 6.7 - pretty much spot-on).

Also - I'm glad you enjoyed the book :)

I agree - especially with zoom lens support. Canon actually allows for two settings, I'm not sure why Nikon can't / won't. It also wouldn't hurt my feelings to see options for different distances, but I'd just settle for full zoom lens support.
