My experience with Ritz was BLaaa - To me all they were was a camera outlet and machine film prepossess like any drugstore. A camera store yes with clerks not knowledgeable sales persons, like were abundant in "Good" camera & photography supply stores before digital took over most of the photography market.
The good stores with knowledgeable camera sales staff is hard to find.
The only one I personally know of(seen it - been in it) is 200 mi from my house in Palo Alto,CA - 30 mi south of San Francisco
Although they have provided me with decent prints in the past, the machine at our local store has been broken more often than not for the passed three months. Of the three or so workers there, one is knowledgeable about photography.
I guess I'll start ordering my prints from Adorama or try WHCC.
I think that is the standard now days hire people to sell with out the background of knowledge. Just sell get the money!
I am a Ham Radio Operator,A Ham went into a Radio shack
asked the sales person if they had a cpasitor. This sales person asked "Does it take batteries? The Ham radio oprearotor
walked out in disbelief!. Here's your sign.
The Ritz near me has a couple of people that know photography. However, Ritz does not have what I am looking for anymore.
It's certainly true that today's electronic retail centers rely heavily on inexperienced poorly trained clerks to sell their priducts. However I feel despite Ritzcamera is the exception maybe not ever store but certainly on the whole they have an excellent training program, their employees go through a lengthy and thoroughly complete training regiment on Cyber Scholar. I personally have been in the camera sales industry for 25 years and with Ritz for 17 years.
I use Ritz, but have come to know which clerks are knowledgeable, so have a good rapport when needed. A local camera store to me has the same issues: I know who will give me great advise and who will just try to sell me the expensive (fill in the blank) item. Too bad it has come to this, sice most brick and mortar stores have very similar pricing. Big Box stores have hurt the local/ knowledgaeble stores for the most part.

Ritz closed down maybe over a dozen stores in the DC area alone. I definitely don't want to go to Best Buy to get my next SLR, so it's either a trip to the one Penn Camera (now owned by Calumet) in Virginia still open or a trip to Baltimore for Service Camera. Or maybe a safari to B&H, J&R or Abe's.
I use WHCC they are great, very heplfull with questions or upload problems which have been all my fault. They have reprinted the pictures at 1/2 price to make it right when they didn't have to. Also with them having a facility here in Texas the turn around has been excellent.
Their first bankruptcy filling concerned their Internet or E-Commerce site.
Their demise started when Chuck Wolf decided to branch out so to speak and buy additional outlets from Fox Photo, which was then owned by Kodak.
Sad they just started stocking Canon DSLRs again.
