New Mexico is known for some big stuff - Balloon Fiesta, Bosque del Apache and White Sands... However, there are lots of wonderful places that are more in the minor leagues. One such place is the City of Rocks State Park. It is located about 75 miles West of Las Cruces, pretty much in the middle of nowhere! It is one of the best parks in the state! It is extremely well maintained, and has lots of different camping options - RV, full and just electric hook ups; camping, both reserve and walking options. They have beautiful facilities for showers, and a visitor center where a world class ornithologist who is amazing! The camping sites are very nicely spaced so one doesn't have near neighbors, and every one has fantastic views! There are owls, a large variety of other birds (one of the best birding spots in NM), coyotes, and we saw a skunk and, yeah rattlesnakes... Also! Just about 3 miles from the park is an oasis straight from the 60's called Faywood Hot Springs. Beautiful place!! Very funky, clean, a dozen hot tub/springs at least, very nicely arranged so that "clothing optional" and "clothing required" are separated in good ways that make family soaking really comfortable. They rent sweet little cabins, have RV and camping options. Outstanding place!! Also a great birding spot! So! After that travel brochure introduction, here's some photos from our trip there last week...
Nice photos. That looks like a BIG rattlesnake.

Nice compositions I really enjoy going there we go to Silver City to visit friends a few times a year and I go to Deming's Rockhound State Park quite a bit to search for thundereggs, Agates, chalcedony, Apache tears, calcite, fluorite and geodes, after a couple days doing that I always try and fit a short visit to City of Rocks State Park.
New Mexico has a wealth of places to visit and photo ops. Thank you for sharing your work.

DirkWill, some terrific shots! My favorites are the snake and the dragonfly.
Thanks for the responses Folks! Beauty is everywhere, and the desert is no exception...

Hey Ralph, a very nice set. But, I wish you had clicked "store original" so that we could have seen enlarged pictures to get the full flavor of the images.

Kinda looks like a cross between Tent Rocks and Easter Island! Thanks for sharing!
