According to a local bird rescue sanctuary, cooper's hawks are the only raptor they will not try to rescue, because cooper's are so ornery that they absolutely do not tolerate being in captivity. I am told that we have many cooper's around here. They frequently take pigeons in my and my neighbors's yards. An impressive species.
seniormomentnw...Thank you for the very nice compliment. You are absolutely right about them being ornery raptors. They truly are common hawks, but due to their secretiveness, they are not often seen by people. And most folks don't really know what a Cooper's hawk is. They wouldn't recognize one if they saw it.
