The U.S. Mexican Border Wall May Never Happen?
I drove to Chula Vista, CA to visit a friend this past weekend. We went out for dinner there, and we discussed the future building of the U.S. Mexican Border Wall. He said he heard that Bids had been submitted to the US Government, and that some initial construction had begun. The cost of the entire wall is estimated to cost about 10 billion dollars. The wall obviously has to be on the US side. And will begin from the State of California, and all the way through Texas. Nearly 2,000 miles. There will be some environmental impact and Eminent Domain issues too. Some American ranchers and farmers who own land close to the border are opposed, and some are not opposed to the wall. The U.S. Border Patrol prefers a sturdy tall fence, with steel rods spaced just wide enough, so they can see drug smugglers through it, rather than a solid wall. A 2,000 mile solid wall seems impractical, and too expensive. Hiring more Border Patrol Agents, and giving them better equipment, such as drones, night seeing devices, surveillance equipment, etc, seems the most practical way to me. Congress most likely will not allocate 10 billion dollars for the wall. Maintenance of the wall will also be costly. Most Southern Californians already know, Mexico is not paying for that wall.
Mexico will pay for the border restriction, indirectly through import tariffs.
Instead of the wall, why not fine employers $10,000 per example of illegal employment? Second offense, jail time.

Right!
Americans will chip in with higher fruit and vegetable costs. We'll see who gets hurt the most on that deal.

You need to think that one out. If Mexican goods cost more and they're exported to the US, who pays for the extra cost? Could it be the consumer?
Already we see that our deteriorating relationship with Mexico is having an impact on our farmers. Mexico always bought corn from US Farmers but now has decided to buy it from South America.
Trump caused 11 of his businesses to go bankrupt because he doesn't understand how they work or because he stole money from them. He's treating the USA like his own business and our economy will show that.

Would you rather pay lower prices and keep the border open?

So you are saying that the wall is the only solution to prevent an "open border" and opponents are automatically in favor of open borders? Are you also conceding that the consumer will pay higher prices that essentially means that we are paying for the wall as well?

I guess you don't understand who actually pays the tab for tariffs ...

We could problem pay the additional cost by directing campaign contributions and have a bundle left over. Just a thought.

I am saying nothing, I am asking a question?

Cop out...not a discussion.
I asked a question, do not try to put words in my mouth.

If you do not wish to clarify my questions before answering yours, it is not possible for me to continue. Nice try at trying to put words in my mouth..

Well you certainly made an assumption as to my beliefs based on a question I asked and then expressed it. I would gladly pay the extra 10 to 15 cents earned by an American citizen picking it as it would be offset by lower unemployment costs.

Your question is based upon the assumption that the border wall will actually keep i*****l i*******ts out and it won't. Every study ever done revealed that most i*****l i*******ts enter the United States at it's major airports and simply overstay their visas. That will continue and the wall will do nothing but create havoc for the Americans that live and work near the border.
