A 3-D the way I do it

Here is a stereo pair I created some years ago about the radar domes on Mt. Hebo Air Force Station, Oregon. To see the stereo effect, cross the eyes and merge the middle images together. These photos were taken about 100 feet apart back in 1963. (For the curious--the big dome is 140' in diameter.)

Close, but no cigar for me.

It does take some practice. (I've been doing it for maybe 40 years, so I'm good at it.) It may help to first focus on a finger held about a foot from the screen and then shift attention to the photo.

It seems to be like those Magic Eye books. They look like nonsense until you make your eyes stare a focus beyond the page.

So, I'm guessing you were eventually able to see the 3-D? I like this method because it does not require any glasses and the colors are all true.

Nice job. I was able to view using the 'relaxed eyes' method and get a striking stereo (3-D) effect.

Thanks, Papa Joe. The effect is large because the photos were taken quite some distance apart with no foreground. I've been doing the trick so long it takes me less than a second to lock in. Here's another you might enjoy:

Thanks. You won't believe it, but both those sets were accidents--I just happened to take 2 similar photos on the same day from some distance apart in each case, and recognized that I had a stereo pair some years later. In the second set I was lucky--the radar antenna was not rotating at the time. (It's the biggest rotating radar antenna ever made for USAF, and 120' across the tips. There were only 12 of them made and all of them have been scrapped now.)
