Ah. So you DO need an iphone!

NO. It works equally well with Android smart phones.

Ok. My terminology is bad. I have a dumb phone. All it can do is call people!

CS - memory cards -- Cool!!!

Oh - oh! Wait..... I can not use my C.F. memory cards??? Bummer.

((I do not have a "smart-phone" I am still using my "Flip-Phone" = Because = There is noting wrong with it and it works fine for Voice Only calls. Send me a "text" ?? Naw! I'd rather TALK on the damn thing. More personal and I really like hearing a human Voice. AND as a plus - Less Confusing and making your point clear to the person on the other end of the conversation.))

I have a 500 Gig "Safe-Drive" that takes ALL cards for ALL my Digital cameras - and it has worked well for over five years.... ((I know - It is about ready to "bomb-out" on me. Because it is a mechanical driven drive.

Does it work with CF cards? XQD cards?

The 1TB version is $160. No laptop or extra external drive/usb needed. You can use your smartphone to check that the files tranferred. Perfect for quick backup in the field. It will also be seen by your laptop as a USB drive also through the USB port.

This looks great - thanks for the additional information. I like this better than having to take a half dozen thumb drives. Amazon says it "ships in 1-4 weeks" but it looks like it is available at a lot of outlets, even Wallymart. Also works with an iPhone Ap.

...only reservation I had was that is a hard drive and not flash/SSD....which means you need to be careful not to drop or bang it when the drive is on. No bungee jumping over the Nile while simultaneously xferring from SD :-)

Not sure what the fail rates are....in any case, like you, I preferred 1 stop solution vs multiple USBs or other SD backups...although if you have lots of memory cards/USB sticks already in possession then the $39 solution originally posted is great, inexpensive alternative...

(I have not tried the video streaming option but if it works, might be good if it can hold some movies to watch on the plane if the seatback movie options are not good.)

I just bought one for a trip to China for the same reason. Seems to work well, although the instructions are a bit vague. But, once you set it up and play with it some, it becomes clear. I will use it with two external hard drives but it works easily with thumb drives, too.

Hi ! If you are coming to Shanghai - do not miss the photo mart on the corner of Xietu Lu and Luban Lu. 6 floors of all legitimate photo shops, and very reasonable prices - in many cases much lower than the US. There is nothing remotely like it in the US. Plan on spending hours in this place ! If you are a Canon user - there is also a large Canon company owned store on Huaihai Lu and Xizang Lu - they have every Canon product on display and also sell - but prices will be even cheaper on Xietu Lu. Also inside the Xietu Mart is a company owned Fujifilm store - where everything is much lower priced than in the US.
