Something a little brighter than my recent efforts FYC. All critique is welcome and appreciated.

your colors work very well together, it has a nice mood to it. The light on the couple looks like it is coming in upper left, but the light on the background seems to come in from upper right (so perhaps flip the background or the couple). I don't get the proper sense of scale from the clouds supporting the couple, perhaps make them larger where the couple is standing, they can billow larger. I don't like the milky sky in the front, maybe deepen the dark clouds more - I don't know... The size of the couple as they are close to the building bugs me, I think your front/close building should be much larger to give the feeling that they are right there with it. The idea of what you are doing is cool.

Flipping the building is a great idea and one I should have thought of. The colours of the couple and the sky are what led into the composite but I have struggled with the cloud portion as the sky is one shot - so increasing the scale of the little black clouds in the foreground tends to lose some attractive detail elsewhere, but I agree it needs doing, one way or another. Making them larger will help with the couples placing, for sure. Likewise, scale between couple and the peace pagoda may be difficult to handle but you've got me thinking of solutions. I hope to get some time for it over the weekend so I'll have a go. Thanks for your thoughtful critique, it's very helpful.

The clouds under the couple need to be more substantial. You can see the woman's feet protruding out the bottom of the cloud. Apart from that, a very engaging image. (How about a Victorian propelled balloon in the background?).

I like this a bunch. I won't comment on the clouds building and relationship to the peoples sizes because this is Steampunk. Steampunk to me is to be over the top. I like the colors but think it needs more punch. I took your picture into camera raw and brought up the whites, increased the blacks, increased shadows and added a touch of clarity. Bam now it pops with the new setting. I will post if you want but I think you wanted it on the soft side. Good job.

Please post your version Jim - I did a softer version but would love to see yours with more contrast. At the moment I'm thinking I'll go back to soft, but you may persuade me otherwise.

Hi RG, agree on the clouds. If I had had the components the balloon would be there. The one in my stock could be used but with difficulty. I'm not keen on using others stuff in my composites, but.....maybe!

Here you go with brighter whites and stronger contrast version.

Yep, if it's to be a darkish, sharp image, this is better - makes my version look dull. I will probably opt for a lighter, soft look though. Not got back to it today but we' see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for taking the time to pep things up, and for showing Jim, it's appreciated.

You need to please yourself if it is a picture you will be keeping around. Every picture will have separate opinions not necessarily making a picture any better for others just themselves.

just thinking out loud, not critiquing. I like Jim's version as it seems more real. The couple's pictures was taken in sharp light. The shadow line across the vest/jacket is razor sharp, so my mind wishes the light to be correspondingly bright and contrasty. If you keep the softer lights, perhaps blur some of the shadow lines...

I'll keep it in mind, but not certain which way I'll go. I flipped the pagoda late last night and that improved the look but generated some finishing problems that I hope I'll sort today.

Very cool creation, I so admire your composites. Sorting out the direction of the lighting, and getting a little more interest in the cloud they're "standing" on (via variation, depth, etc) will make this even more amazing. The concept is really great, and your execution is admirable, but it'll be even better when you work back through it.

Thanks Min. I've done some of the work and will repost when I've got it where I want it. Takes time, as you know!
Dave.

This is wonderful. I would not change a think. Very imaginative and I think very well executed. Well done.
