My Nikon super cool scan 5000 ed scanner on my Windows 7 64 bit no longer works with its current driver software.
My son tried some that were on the internet, but none panned out. Is there an UHH'er that can resolve my problem?

Vuescan is cool (although you do have to pay for it) if they have a driver for your scanner. If not, you have a couple of choices. If you have an older XP machine on your network, you could attach it to that and just transfer the scanned image over the network to your Windows 7 machine - awkward, but works. Alternately, you could run the scanner ap in compatibility mode under Windows 7:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/255507/run_xp_software_in_windows_7.html VueScan by Hamrick Software is available in two versions. I recommend the pro version. I have been using it for 8-10 years. Updates frequently. Pro version supports film / slide scanning. HTH

I actually like it better than the Nikon software.

That is an expensive chunk of machine to end up a paperweight. If it costs a few bucks it will be worth the price. Good luck.

I had a old Nikon slide scanner that I ran using the Nikon software an Vuescan. I found Vuescan to be better.

I've used Vuescan successfully with my old Nikon 4000ED scanner, with Windows 7 64-bit OS. It's a fairly simple and basic scanning software. For a dedicated film scanner like the Nikon, I think you need the $90 "Pro" version.
If you want the very best in the business, for a lot more money there's Lasersoft Silverfast Ai.... This is more comparable to the software originally provided with the Nikon film scanners, with some of the more advanced image editing and . I just looked it up for my Nikon 4000ED and it costs $450 for full version!
Just be careful you don't download grey market software..JK :)

Yes, you would want the full color version.

Yes, you will need new control software, but you will also need appropriate device driver software. If my XP computer dies, my backup plan to keep my LS-2000 going is to use a Linux system because I've been assured an appropriate device is already there.

Google "Nikon Scan Windows 7 64 bit" and you will find several solutions. I have Nikon Scan 4.0 running in Windows 7 for my Coolscan 9000 essentially by forcing it to use the Vista driver.
I still prefer Scan 4 to Vuescan and Silver Fast which I have used wit my V750.
