From my garden, no macro converter on these, but I think I added a little Topaz Glow to the hibiscus.

Gorgeous, Angela! I love the bright colors and details. I don't know what that second one is, but it shows such a pretty color, and the composition is great! Your backgrounds are so soft and dreamy and make the flowers pop against the green. My Sweet 35 is collecting dust, so I have to drag it out and put some mileage on it. Thanks for sharing more of your garden.

Thanks Jane for your always sweet comments and glad that you liked these.... but what kind of mother are you!!!?? Dust off that baby and give her some special mommy and me time!!
I was talking to a woman on Flickr who's also addicted and I said we should dedicate a week to one lens... try the different apertures, macro lenses and things like that and then move to the next. How does that sound to you??

These are stunning, Angela! I like how the bokeh contributes to the composition in the second shot, the flower not being centered.

That's a great idea to try! I'm so hung up on the Velvet 56 that I have to tear myself away. You'll find out if Santa brings you one. I just saw your message on the other post about chatting, and I don't think you'd appreciate me calling you at 5 a.m. Haha! Let me know if you're around today and we'll chat. I was out and about all day yesterday.

No, I wouldn't be up to chatting at 5am, but maybe later... I'm meeting my sister in law for lunch at 12, should be home by 2-2:30 the latest, if you're free.
I'm looking forward to the Velvet, the more I watch videos and read this blog that a woman on Flickr posted, I know that's the one for me... the 85 is for distance and I love closeups.
Got the soft focus yesterday!! I'll tell you about it on the phone... very happy with that $42 purchase!!

I believe the second flower shot is abutilon or flowering maple. From the same mallow family as hibiscus. Both are great examples of lens baby usage.

Thanks for the visit, jbubu and your comment!! The second flower is a burgundy perennial hibiscus that we've had for years, it was not quite opened yet when I took this shot.

Ah, that explains the closed petal look.

Exactly.... they only last a day, you either catch them opening or closing and then they turn to mush!! LOL..

Nice lighting and focus on the yellow flower. Even though the leaves are blurred, there is good definition in the veining. The hibiscus is a lovely flower. I've heard that name, but have never seen one. Do they grow in Minnesota? Zone 3?

Thanks Sandra for your visit and comment and glad you enjoyed!! You'll have to google about the hibiscus in your area, but we have very bad winters here on Long Island and this variety is perennial and I even have this one planted in a big pot and it comes back every year!

Sandra

Hibiscus really thrives in warm areas with mild winters. It is the state flower of Hawaii, if that gives you an idea. But with bright light and warmth, it will survive in colder zones. Even here in zone 9 and 10, my hibiscus need to be covered when there is a freeze warning.

You might be talking about tropical hibiscus... the perennials are very hardy and we have very cold winters and mine come back every year, plus I have it planted in a pot and it's still fine!
