I'm new to the group. I joined due to the title of this post -- One camera setting that ruins your pictures -- but I have yet to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks!

OFF - or any one of the dozens possible if you haven't checked the setting before squeezing the shutter release.

For me, it is the setting that lets you take a photo without the SD card in the camera. Note: all cameras don't have that option. Cameras that let you hook up to a computer as in studio photography will let you shoot without a SD card installed. Just like the film days, the film did not catch on the take up spool. Happy Shooting

Leaving the lens cap on. I could never find the menu command that removed it.

Forgetting that you set you lens to manual focus the day before and didn't turn it back on.

I format every time I take the camera out. Primarily because I have imported all pictures to the computer every time I come back from shooting. A habit that is the first good habit to not losing, or formatting over shots I want to keep.
Format every outing for safety sake, and to know that you have a memory card in the camera whenever you go out. Another major Faux Pas of Maroons who shoot blithely.

I'm still looking for the "one technique that'll improve your pictures" that got me checking out this forum lol. I'm sure it's still out there waiting to be found

Yes, I find that my images almost always come out better if I remove the lens cap . . . almost! :-) Thanks!

Many cameras today won't take a picture with the lens cap on unless you really force it.

No one camera setting, any one set of controls can make it break a photo, but I have the hardest time with the most (I think) interesting mode "Nanual"! But then I'm still learning! If you can master manual, I think you will be an expert in all modes! But that's just me!
