Traveling to Acadia NP last week in August. Will be shooting seascapes, wildlife, (like everyone else there). Do you know of any must-see sites that might be off the beaten path? Also, we will be on a guided photo shoot with "Acadia Images" for a sunset and a sunrise. Has anyone had experience with these folks? Thanks for your guidance.

mffox - If you have the time, go to the farthest north part of Acadia you can - Schoodic Point. It's a good hour or more away by road, but not crowded and you will see some - but not all -of the same sights. You gotta do sunrise on Cadillac, 5am is a good time to get there usually! (if for no other reason than seeing the sun rise earlier than anyone else in the US - and - actually have a Kodachrome of the "green flash" there. Lucky lucky.) After your return from Cadillac, most mornings - even in August - you will get bits of fog rising off of the many little ponds. Easy to reach light house in Bass Harbor, on the "quiet side", beyond Southwest Harbor. Ascitou gardens while in Southwest, while not much more than an acre, are nice to see. And a little further in that same direction you will reach Barnard, a really nice working harbor that has a great "eat in the ruff" lobster house there. If you are a hiker, you should spend a good part of a day going to Seur d'Mont on the Loop Road, climb Dorr Mountain and follow it to Cadillac, and come down almost any of the many routes that you can be comfortable with. If you're a real hiker, go up the Precipice. 800' almost vertical with ladders and bridges. Beehive is a junior version. I would recommend, even if you are not a hiker, to get the plasticized trail map. It shows everything nearly, and you will love the area so much you will use it for the next several trips! Have fun and take an extra memory card or three.

Many thanks. We were hikers once, but will be celebrating my wife's 80th birthday while there (a milestone I've already passed), so our hiking will be somewhat limited. Memory cards: check! Spare batteries: check! Battery chargers: check!

Don't forget the sea anemones. Fascinating creatures. They're next to shore under only inches of water (I assume this is best at or near low tide). You can find them on the North side of the island, presumably elsewhere. I remember seeing them (many decades ago) at one of the first stop-off points from the North entrance.
