The separate screening just announced by the current administration applies ON ALL FLIGHTS TO ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES BIGGER THAN A CELL PHONE. With all those separate screenings, plan on arriving three weeks before any departure. /Ralph

Fortunately the new screening policy doesn't apply equally to TSA PreCheck program. In that case, we can leave all of our cameras in the camera bag and be treated the same as yesteryear.

It's gonna be fun. Three ham radios, one computer, two cameras, lotsa cords.
For $85 for 5 years, TSA PreCheck is worth not having to deal with the headaches.
On a flight to Europe last month, TSA agents made me remove my camera from my carry on bag for separate screening. However, there was nothing electronic about it - just an old Yashica Mat TLR film camera. That's why I didn't think I needed to remove the camera before the first screening of my carry on, as the instruction sign only mentioned electronic devices, not all mechanical devices. (Perhaps their screening machines are not nearly as sophisticated as they want us to believe?) Anyway, I'm glad the agents did not ask me take the camera apart.
Oh, will that be fun! Traveling is no longer fun.
I seem to recall an occasion a few years ago when they wanted to see the camera operate, I.e, take a photo.
As a frequent business traveler, I already know my laptop goes in a separate bin and my shoes, belt, watch, cell phone etc. another. It's just one more bin to push thru x-ray and it is really
NOT a big deal. Takes all of 15 seconds to grab an extra bucket, not 3 weeks, lol. It's the twice a year flyer who thinks the rules shouldn't apply to them that hold up the line. That and the family with 12 carry-on bags, two baby strollers and snacks/juice to feed 8 people!
For what it is worth, I just came back from a vacation trip to Sedona routed from Dallas thru Phoenix. Had two cameras, 4 lenses and various gear plus a tripod. All packed in a Lowepro Trekker 400 AW. Could not have been easier, both airports. Backpack went thru, all waiting for me as fast as I could walk thru body scanner. TSA agent only asked if I had any toiletries packed. No delay, no search and seizure. Pack fit in overhead bin. Domestic travel has not been an issue... international travel may be a different story.

"Alright then. Why don't all of you agents move close together for a group shot... yeah, that's it. Good. Now say 'cheese'"!

You may not have noticed but the TSA people aren't exactly known for having a sense of humor. 😊
