WHA?? That's it, the letter G is now removed from my alphabet. Thanks Foatho.

It's Gatlinburg. no G in the middle. If you're into tourist traps Dolleywood is in close vacinity of the Park.

Many thanks to all res-ponders. I appreciate the added pearls given and are added to our bucket list for future visits. I have added all comments to our trip itinerary. Thanks again.

Thanks Bob. Guess that knocks out the 29' travel trailer.

If anyone is interested in the itinerary you can view it here, https://roadtrippers.com/trips/18847101?utm_campaign=trip_guide&utm_medium=share&utm_source=copy

I have found Road Trippers to be a great help in planning trips and vacations.

You don't say when you are going.... Fall in the GSMNP is best, IMHO, (color wise) in early to mid-November. It's crowded as all get out in the Fall as well. That 11 mile loop thru Cades Cove is almost always bumper to bumper & it's hard to get shots without people in them but it can be done... Last time I went I stayed in a friends cabin in (of all places) Kodak, Tn.

Cades Cove is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The biggest problem there is bear sightings. A black fur ball 100 yds away in tall grass will bring traffic to a complete stop.

Yup, Cades Cove is the winner. The abandoned buildings are especially enticing. Lots of people but they're spread out over a large area. Last time we drove up there the park was closed by some Obama-esque dictatorial nonsense.

When I was there last October Cade's Cove was closed from just about sundown til 7 am- If you want to be first in line for the gate opening you need to be thereby 6 at least...

Took us several hours to get from Cades Cove to Gatlinburg. We did go thru the park route though.

I was there for the first time two weeks ago for just a brief visit and was most interested in seeing the sunset over the mountains. We drove up to Clingmans Dome during the day and it was a zoo, and I understand evening is much the same. I spoke with a park ranger and she strongly recommended Waterrock Knob. It's right on the Blue Ridge Parkway and has a great view west over the smokies. I attached a couple of shots from the one evening I was there.

If your timing is not of the necessity, wait till late October, early November, before going. The color and the ambiance will be worth waiting for the 90 days till...plus, bears are
less likely with the exception of Cades Cove.
